Langley Tire Reef, 2-26-12, 0900 HRS.

Post by coulterboy »

Norris, H20Doctor, Novice, Spudgunman and yours truly had a good dive today. Although, viz wasn't that great, 8-10 ft. at best, the group never got separated. Communication was very good. Went all the way down to 46 fsw. A lot of fun times happened down under (a lot of comical skits). What do you expect, with a group like this, it's bound to happen.

Viz got even worst as we were coming back in (around 15 ft. and shallower) after just over 60 mins. of diving, caused by the rotor wash of the Victoria Clipper. It was loaded with passengers. Little did we know that the town had a mystery "Clue" game going on. The town was packed.

We then proceeded to have lunch at the local pizza place, minus Novice, who had to boogie after the dive. And quite frankly, the pizza was actually very good.

All in all, although the viz sucked, the camaraderie at topside was awesome.

I'm of the opinion that no one actually went diving here....admit it, you all got in your drysuits, decided the water looked really cold and went for pizza instead. It's cool, I won't judge. How embarrassing though that you all wore the same color...

Spudgunman was the brave one. He dove with a semi-dry. :supz:

haha yea just lots of beer!

What's the simi-dry rant? I can tell you that at 55 min into the dive I was ranting ready to get out of the drink, damn it was cold, we also stopped moving at that point waiting a year for H20doc to videotape a phone pole. But any dive site with a hot shower is a great dive site when it's snowing when you plunk in.

Awesome day diving and great times topside thanks guys! I got the next round!

*no sea slugs were harmed on this dive.

A good time indeed, thanks guys. Turned out sunny and really nice when we got out. Good beer and pizza was had by all, well...cept Novice.

Um the video that I have is not ...uh...well family friendly. Little did I realize what would transpire when all I was trying to do was catch some video of the starfish on Chris...

Well you're out of luck, I'm not longer feeling feisty. But basically, what's "dry" about it?...it's a wetsuit. Yes yes, I know, there's all these seals and special zippers and things...but in the end you get wet, and it's a wetsuit. And really the most important thing in a wetsuit is fit, because all the special features in the world won't keep you warm if your suit doesn't fit. I had this supposedly awesome, amazingly great, super warm suit once, but I could have hula hooped in the thing - there was that much empty space around my waist (yes, it was a ladies cut suit). I couldn't stay warm in 70 degree water in the Bahamas, let alone anything where I *actually* wanted to stay warm. I was wearing an empty weight belt (we called it a "scuba girdle") to keep the material bunched up a bit...and it didn't really help that much. Maybe it's because I'm a girl, but I've never found it to be true that semi-dry = warmer. I see that term as something manufacturers came up with to charge more money (and yes, the seals and zippers and all the other features...I know, I just don't agree with the association of all that being necessarily "better")

And drysuits...well, those aren't very appropriately named now either, are they?...At best they're mostly dry, or dry until you turn your head the wrong way, or dry except for the crotch leak...the list goes on. But no one asked about drysuits.

And yes, I do get feisty-er than that^ :pirate:

The trick is to buy the suit when you still eat good and work out a bit..then drink beer and eat pizza, eventually you fill the suit up nice and tight. Then no water can seek in! I figure if I loose weight I need to buy a new suit! Haha

I have signed up Doc for some aquatic life sensitivity training. I believe he may have given a sea cucumber some emotional scars.
