Finally got to swim with a shark

What a great night dive at redondo tonight. Got to swim with a six gill for about 10 minutes. Here's some pics.

Way cool, perhaps this will be the year that folks start seeing six-gills on a regular basis again.

Awesome! About how big was it? That's really cool, but also scares me:)
I think you've figured out the root cause of your problems. Even sea lions get annoyed by splitfin divers silting out their dive sites. Switch back to your jets and you'll be safe from the sea lion silt prevention patrol from now on. - NWbrewer

Very Nice, thanks for posting..

If it had been me, I would have been too excited to maintain my presence of mind and get the video.....

This is good news! If there have been some pups dropped then perhaps the sightings will pick up and divers will see them as they grow and before they leave the sound. I believe Mr. Rawlings posted a link to some very interesting research - don't have time to look up and repost but worth your time to look for.

Only about 4 foot, just a baby so not scary at all :)

We were at about 90 feet (Near the carousel boat) when we spotted him. Ended up at about 110 so he took us out west a ways....

Yes!!!

In particular John's second post re-capping the conference.

If the speculation is correct and some sixgills have pupped in the Sound we may be in for another round of sightings as they mature before leaving. Males reaching sexual maturity at abt 3.5 meters and females at abt 4 meters - those are big fishies anyway you slice it! Hopefully we will have the privilege of a few more sightings as they grow.

Outstanding. Some of my favorite memories are swimming with sharks of various kinds. But, I've never seen, let alone swam, with a Six-Gill so I counted gills in the first image. I only counted five, not six. What am I missing?

Perhaps you're counting the flaps of skin between the gills? Count the vents...there are six
