The commercial fishery is mostly for resale to the Japanese market and in SE Alaska consists of a series of brief openings in the early fall. Washington has commercial sea cucumber, sea urchin, and geoduck dive fisheries in addition to the tribal fisheries. From what I learned while visiting Dave folks are using a mixture of scuba and surface supplied diving for the fishery.

And a few guys died last year, diving for Cukes!

I still would like to try it some day!

Yep.we loose divers every year its very sad.... Mostly hoses kinking and they loose there surface air and no bail put bottle....Thats why i use tanks and one of the only ones who do dive tanks...When using tanks u r not connected to the boat and free to swim and not on a 300' leash... 5 more days till it starts Woo Hoooo.....*-

No not allowed.Season starts the first monday of every week 11 hrs a week till the 1.4 million lb r caught..

I'm moving this thread to the Dive Reports section because hopefully there will be a dive report, and this was never really a "Hey, let's all meet and go Cucumber diving!" thread anyway.

If there isn't a report I can always put it in the General Scuba section - it is interesting!
