SJI Aug 25

Post by YellowEye »

Hi
Scubie Doo and I dove the San Juans today on the Banditos. The sites were Breakfast Rock, Hick's Bay, James Island.

Awesome diving!

Here were some of the sights!

Great stuff, Lots of critters that we don't get to see down here. Always fun to get into new areas.

Great job Eric! Also, thank you for pointing out the critters. I asked for (2) critters; a juvenile PS King Crab and Candy Striped Shrimp. Dive 1 produced the shrimp and Dive 2 produced the Crab. Dive 3 produced both, what a great trip! I am working through my photos, I am a little behind from previous dives. However, here are a few of my favorites.

Image
Beautiful PS King Crab. I have several more to share a little later :-)

Image
Large Candy Stripe with a parasite. I was a little bummed to see the parasite, but still a pretty critter.

Image
Very small shrimp in an anemone.

Image
Too bad the shrimp on top wasn't a candy stripe, that would have been cool.

Image
Tiny mosshead in a barnacle. We had fun taking shots of this little critter. Notice the "bug" to the left?

Hi Jesse
I'm loving the stripe detail on your candystripe closeup photo! Amazing, it looks like an abstract painting. I thought it was just red/blue/yellow stripes. I didn't know about the orange surrounding some of the blue! I'm going to have to look closer at some of my photos!

Great diving with you!

By the way, that warbonnet was Jesse's find. Some of our other buddies couldn't believe how small that thing was. The barnacle wasn't even full-sized. I'm surprised my photo turned out because my contact lens was bugging me -- I could barely see it.

Nice pics, guys! I tell Scoobie that a candy stripe is still on my "need-to-see"/"get-a-picture-of" list...and he finds several a few days later. Looks like it was a nice trip!

Dude! We have about 300 dives together, our "need-to-see"/"get-a-picture-of" list is almost identical. :smt064

Hey, you deserve a lot of credit for seeing it when I pointed it out. I was amazed you spotted it so quickly. Beside, you found me my first Candy Stripe Shrimp and PS King Crab :taco:

Scubie, I love that second shot! I wish you had got a really tight shot of the golden nudie, I love the way their foot looks clear like a gummy bear. That camera does such a great job on the super macro stuff. Of course it's the camera not the guy behind it! :smt064

Wow, you two got some AMAZING candy-striped shrimp shots! (I consider myself to have done well if you can find the shrimp in the picture.)

Rich, this is the best shot I got of the golden nudi. Believe me, I tried :-)

Here are a few more nudi shots for you.

Great shots Jesse!

Here's a couple other fun ones:

Seeing double -- Jesse, do I hear quadruple?

Not a great photo, but shows the colors on the stripes! And eggs(?) inside!

Whoa doggies. That close up is sweet!!!!!

No quadruple here, I didn't even try with my 100mm macro.

Again, very nice close up :)

(The quadruple refers to Jesse seeing four candies on one anemone!)

Thanks! Here's another one!

The two of you got incredible shots! Rick and I are jealous of you being underwater with photo talents while all we did was run the boat. Nicely done!!!
