Octopus Hole - 8/23/14

Post by Scubie Doo »

I haven't been to Octopus Hole in a long time. Penders and I did two dives out there on Saturday. Viz was decent, the critters were out in full force. Wolfies, some huge ottos (one out in the open), and tons of nudibranch. Here are a few photos :-)

Saw this critter at 40' under a kelp leaf, pretty stoked.

Octo in the open. It wasn't huge, but it was very active.
Image

Saw this little shrimp peeking through some kelp and I thought it would make an interesting shot.
Image

These nudis were everywhere. This one was positioned well for a dark background.
Image

Can anyone help with an ID on this little nudibranch. It was tiny, when I took the photo I didn't even know if it was a spec of debris or a nudibrnach :-)

Have a good/safe weekend everyone!

Very nice work! I have never made it out there to Octopus Hole, looks pretty cool.
I especially like the fish-on-seacucumber shot you have in the click thru!

Interesting question! I looked thru my warbonnect photos (which is not too many!), and they all look to have the nose horn. The warbonnet in my avatar is a juvi, and it has a horn.

Really nice pics!

And I have no idea on the nudi. Doesn't look like one I have ever seen.

Fantastic shots Jessi The unidentified nudi is called a Dubious dorid. The reason being the experts can't agree on what group he belongs in, and yes the are tiny!

The other nudi is a Flabellina verrucosa or red gilled nudibranch. and it is an awesome shot which of course I would expect from you.

As Eric said, I have seen them on smaller warbonnets too. However, this one seems to really standout. Must be the lighting :)
