Playa del Carmen, Mexico diving

Post by PapaZ »

Only getting a couple days of diving here at Playa del Camen. Diving with 'Dive Balan' out of the Royal Hacienda Resort.
I have been out with them numerous times over the last 7 years. Excellent diving and good crew/dive masters.

Weather has been good here this week with viz being in the 75 foot + range.

We did Plantar Reef, a slow drift dive and Tres Rios, reefs, coral heads.
Coral was in pretty good condition that we saw there.
Lot of schooling fish at the coral heads.
Some nice 'cleaning stations', numerous eels, grunts, trumpet fish, couple rays, one #%$#@ lion fish, lot of lobsters too.

Water temp was about 80 degrees and air temp the same.

One more dive trip Friday with a wreck dive.

Awesome!

I have friends in Playa Del Carmen and am hoping to get down there and do some diving.

I take it all your diving has been on the reefs along the coast there?

Yes, diving the reefs north and south of Playa del Carmen.

Did a couple dives today, Friday.

Small wreck and couple reefs. Both drift dives.
Drifted onto the wreck, maybe 40 foot pleasure craft. Current pretty strong, so hung on leeward for a few pictures.

Second dive was a very strong drift dive. Drifted, then hunkered down into a couple small horseshoe shaped reefs to see the 'critters' before into the current to the next reef area.

Viz was very good, probably 75+ feet and haze after that.

Heading home to the wonderful warm and balmy central Washington state tomorrow.

Makes me salivate! We will be in that area on January 6, all going according to plan.
