Went down to Redondo for a morning dive today and found this going on. Snow won't stop me, but 6 foot swells at high tide make for a tricky entrance and exit

Re: Redondo today
I dove Redondo yesterday. After our second dive we surfaced to similar conditions. During our first dive and prior to our second, it was calm and not windy or rainy. At the end of our second dive, the water was above the first few steps with waves slapping higher on the stairs. I got my butt kicked! The water was up to my shoulders as I tried get up the first step. I got hit by a couple of waves and lost a fin. I was fortunate and I found the fin about an hour later. The dives were not at all like the surface conditions. At depth the water was calm with 20 feet of viz.

Re: Redondo today
After yesterday I'm very concerned about the lumpies ... they live so shallow that they will have taken the brunt of the brutal forces of those waves, and quite likely had their habitat destroyed.
A similar storm two years ago wiped out the eel grass beds to the north of Salty's ... they were just beginning to recover this year, and now I'm afraid they'll be gone once again.
It'll be a few days before the conditions allow an inspection of the damage, but I'm not optimistic that we'll be seeing lumpies again this year ...

Re: Redondo today
A storm like that really does reshape the terrain, down to about 40 feet.

Dove there this morning. No significant changes to anything. Saw a few pieces of siding from the MaST but nothing like a few years ago. I did not go to the eel grass, so I cannot report on that.

Went to Redondo this afternoon. Viz was about 20 feet at 90 feet deep. There was additional debris in the shallows directly above the bottle field. Took pics of a couple grunt sulpins and small GPOs in the bottle field. And - spent some time with a very tiny (1/2 inch at most) at about 75 feet deep.

Keith, how was vis in the shallows? I'm thinking to go check out the lumpies as soon as it's clear enough to see in the shallows. Yesterday was pretty brown and "thick"at Cove 2 down to about 20' ...

Re: Redondo today
It was about ten feet viz in the shallows - should have cleared up more today. Let me know if you'd like company. I'd love to go check it out during this week in the late afternoon/early evening.
