SJI 6/7

Post by YellowEye »

We just went to the San Juans on Lu Jac's Quest. The sites were Dinner Rock and Eagle Point. What a beautiful day!

Dinner Rock had poor viz but we saw candy stripe shrimp, Kincaid shrimp, and swimming scallops.

Eagle Point had good viz, and was covered with red urchin, kelp, yellow tail rockfish, baitfish, and clown nudis.

Top side, we saw minke whales, porpoises, bald eagles, rhino auklets, and many other seabirds.

Looks like a beautiful day! The photo of the swimming scallop made me smile with memories -- the first time I ever saw them, I was diving with Bob Bailey off Deception Island, and Bob startled one after another into the water. I laughed until my mask flooded. I still find them hysterically funny, like animated dentures in a Saturday morning cartoon.

Jess, most of us had to wait a lOT longer to get our first candy-striped shrimp picture -- lucky you!
