Three Tree and other stuff...

Post by YellowEye »

Howdy folks!
We had about 8 people show up for our ThThTh dive at Three Tree yesterday. It was my first time to the site since the closure. We managed to squeeze in about 6-7 cars. A good time was had by all!

Here were some observations of the dive:
* Viz Sucked! It was a muddy, hazy 5 feet of viz
* Lots of ratfish -- I probably saw 10 or more!
* Barnacles everywhere :( The golf ball boat was looking sad because of it. Its gone from a lot of life to only a few species now.
* Pink Mouth hydroids seem plentiful still. Also a type of tunicate I've not noticed before is quite prominent now (a species the size of a small piece of candy, but transparent)
* I observed a lot of red rock crab, and I noticed they were munching on barnacles. Perhaps the red rock crab will have a population growth with all these barnacles?
* As for nudibranchs, I only observed only 2 very small dotos, mating
* Very few shrimp, only a few small ones
* A sand rose anemone was found, no commensal shrimp on that
* Quite a few cockels
* A surprising number of scalyhead sculpins were observed, from miniature to large'
* A few gunnel of various types
* Some nice schools of Puget sound rockfish (!)
+ One tubesnout was seen
* The plumose were looking wilty and sad. I don't remember observing that here previously
* The shallows were looking sad. Only green algea kelp covering the bottom
* one jellyfish... a medium-sized egg yolk

I had no pics of note from the dive, but here are a few shots from some other recent dives

Oof. You know viz is bad when it's bad at TTN.

I love ratfish though, I'm glad to hear they're plentiful!
Come to the nerd side, we have pi!

Not sure? :80sdance: :bow: They just said he quit for bigger & better things. Hopefully we will run into him again one day! It's sad we don't have Tristan or Johnny anymore! We just need to make sure Tony doesn't leave us!

Safe travels home Gdog & Scubie! :)

There were a ton more jellies past the satellite dish. Not sure how far North you guys made it but I was swarmed with them at one point. A decent amount of Ratfish, but not the big schools of them like were there last year. Only saw one little octo myself in the beginning. Sorry we couldn't stay for the second dive at the bar after.
