Redondo 10/25

Post by lologrande »

Did a couple of dives at Redondo late yesterday evening/night. The parking lot was surprisingly empty. Conditions were fantastic - almost lake like and vis was 20+. Stumbled onto a dogfish laying about on the night dive. Tons of sailfins out and about but best of all lumpies! It's that time of year. We found 2 in the eel grass within 10 feet of each other. The usual critters were out about - octos, gunnels, sculpins etc.

Very cool! Nice pictures!

Which side did you find the lumpies on, north or south?

Interesting to see they're on the eelgrass. We've usually been finding lumpies on clean broadleaf kelp this time of year, but the broadleaf kelp is looking in bad shape these days (dirt, bryozoans and holes).

The lot was empty on a Thursday evening... it was a rare Thursday the ThThTh crew didn't dive... sounds like we should have went!

Lumpies were on the north side. We went into the eel grass at the end of the dive and found them pretty quickly. Hopefully that is a sign that there are a lot of them around. Or maybe we just got lucky...
