Sand Tiger Sharks, and Diving the Atlantic Graveyard in North Carolina

Post by Vjw »

There's a gem of a location to see sand tiger sharks, and you don't need your passport! Beaufort, North Carolina is home to Discovery Diving (discoverydiving.com), and StphnMartin and I planned on two days of boat charter diving Aug 5 and 6th and signed up for a third day because weather conditions were so good.

It's a 7 am start and a 2-2.5 hour boat ride to the 'graveyard of the Atlantic'. Each day included two dives, and the captain decides where to go based on conditions and where the divers want to go. The first two days we dove the Aeolus, and the third day we dove the Spar. The viz ranged from 40-75 feet and water temperatures were in low 80's. The structure of the ships was intriguing, but the life on the wrecks was the draw!! We saw many Sand Tiger Sharks, schools of spade fish, barracuda, bait balls, coral on the wrecks, and hundreds of smaller tropical fish. Here's my video of the adventure! :joshsmith: :calvin: :)
