Bubbles and Suds 1/29

Post by Norris »

I had not dived Edmonds in quite a long time and we had a pretty humble showing of me and only two other divers last night. The dive went normal as we swam out to a buoy and dropped. We made our way out to the Triumph and the pontoon. The vis was great, lots of egg masses, and a good dive. Well I ventured out to the west side of the pontoon right around the middle area and saw the biggest damn lobster. My battery had ran out just minutes before seeing this but it was a MONSTER. The claws looked as though they were as wide as my hand. I would guess that it was released and is flourishing in the area. So if anyone gets to Edmonds, make sure to check that out.

I mean a Maine lobster can live to be 100 years old,

I also found this interesting paper written on the attempt to inject lobsters into the Puget Sound, likely not one of them, but still interesting.

Years ago, I ran into lobsters while diving Edmonds. I reported it to the game warden. He told me some Buddhists practice releasing live animals into the wild, and this was the result of that. He also said it was considered invasive, so the next time I saw it to take it home and eat it.

Cool article Norris. Anyone up for a lobster dive? (never thought I would EVER say that one in this area of the US) I'm game for an invasive species hunt! Its sort of whimsical! Kinda like a snipe hunt. When we were kids my parents would make us run around at night with a trash bag, near the sand dunes, on the coast, shouting "Woo Loo Loo!" (because that would attract them, of course). When they jump out at you, you catch them in the trash bag! I insisted that the bag was too easy to escape, so I used my small fishing net (the hooped kind). Kinda like running through the woods with a frying pan for grouse. Never did catch a snipe. Still not sure why! Maybe my kids will have better luck this summer?
