Campbell River ththth Invasion!

Post by ScubaJess »

Hello awesome divers!
I hope y'all are having a fantastic long weekend! :taco: :partyman: :luv:

The Thursday crew (Gdog, Scubie Doo, StphnMartin, Vjw, sharkb8, yellow eye and ScubaJess) went up to Campbell River last weekend for some fun Canadian dive away missions. It was a really fun trip with soooo much colorful diving. Earl at Abyssal Dive Charters is the best!!! :luv: :partydance: :partydance: :eric: I got to do 9 dives and eat at our favorite Indian Restaurant the Spice Hut :burntchef: πŸ˜‹ twice so it was a great success! :partyman: :burntchef: :luv: :pirate: :eric: :calvin:

Also our hotel the Campbell River Lodge was really awesome. :eric: It is right next to the river and we saw so many jumping salmon 🐟🐟🐟. Also we had really nice sea lions, seals, Humpback whale and orca sightings from the dive boat. It was magical πŸ˜»πŸ³πŸ‹πŸ³πŸ³πŸ‹πŸ³πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ³πŸ‹ :luv:

Getting in and out of Canada was very easy. You need to show a negative PCR covid test and your vaccine card. Then fill in the ArriveCAN app and just zip on in. There was no wait on either side for us. The only snag is the ferries to Vancouver Island are very full so best to book in advance if you can.πŸ₯³πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ’–πŸ––πŸ€ΏπŸŸπŸ™πŸπŸ¦πŸ“ΈπŸ€©

Here are a few of my snaps! I hope we can go back again soon. I've missed Canada so much!πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ€—

That was an awesome trip!

I got two keepers. Both from Seymour Narrows. The rest of the sites weren't as wide-angle friendly. I tried macro at the end of the trip but I didn't have a lot of luck (my fault, not the dive sites :) )

Looking forward to seeing the rest of the crew's pics! Can't wait to go again!

Awesome shots Jess!!!! Love all of them. That was such a fun time.

Erik, that 2nd shot is $$$$. Maybe next time you’ll get more keepers if you don’t try to shoot wide angle in a steep island tube worm poop storm :neener:

What an fabulous trip!!! :joshsmith: Love your shots above and below the water, SJ!! And, YE love the purple and pinks of the wall and the currently kelp above! :calvin:
Highlights for me were seeing breaching whales the closest I’ve ever seen (will share footage), such vibrant walls full of life (and tube worm poop), and hanging out with dive buddies! :grouphug:

Very cool Jesse!

I especially like the hooded nudibranch, the tube dwelling anemone eater and the colorful scalyhead sculpin scene! So cool!

Great diving with you, and hope we can go again soon.

Thanks Eric. The giant nudibranch was the dive my suit and strobe flooded. So got some different lighting.

I finally got through a folder of pictures from the first day, and since Jess is impatient I guess I can post a few :neener:

The first dive at Seymour Narrows was pretty awesome. My TG-6 prefers macro but my brain was overwhelmed by the colors and wide angle possibilities so I had a really hard time focusing on picture taking. The funniest part for me was being surrounded by a sea of color and clear water but somehow I spotted a skeleton shrimp and took my best photo of the dive :nutty:

After some whale watching we did a second dive under the Argonaught Wharf, which is pretty famous for wide angle photos of the pilings and lots of octos on the bottom. I did my own thing and took a bunch of pictures of slugs instead :taco:

After that we ate some food and went to Steep Island. The current was still a little swirly when we dropped down on the worms, and the visibility dropped due to a massive cloud of worm poop. I followed Jess down below the overhang but she kept scaring candy stripe shrimp away so I had to ditch her and make friends with a few more before she could send them into hiding.

The second day of diving was really good also and I got a few cool shots of baby king crab, but I haven't had a chance to really look at them yet. Hopefully I will have a few more to post in a week or two.
