This past weekend JaWS and Innerspace Exploration located and captured sonar imagery of a previously undocumented Navy Minesweeper in Lake Washington.

Though a lot of folks are familiar with the YMS-359 that sits at the bottom of the lake, this is actually the 3rd YMS to be found out there – and by all accounts it looks like this ‘new’ one is in the best condition of the bunch. Engines, some equipment and the guns have been removed, but otherwise it appears to be intact.

More information, including sonar imagery located here: http://www.jawsmarine.com

Very interesting! Please keep us informed about your work on this wreck- I bet this is incredibly exciting for you all! I'm always amazed that Lake Washington has so many wrecks waiting to be discovered!

Nice!!

Wish I had a converted Minesweeper, that would be a party dive boat for sure.

Pretty cool. Nice sonar shots too.

If someone were to want to learn more about using sidescans and magnometers, etc. how and where would they go about it? Is there any specific (formal) training offered anywhere, or is it all basically on the job type training?
