May 6th 2017
At Lake Crescent diving the Warren and Steele cars, in the shallows 60-100 feet, below 80 - 40 to 60, below 150 about 30 feet. Surface temp 48, at 200 ffw 43. Not too much of a thermal cline. Enjoyable two hour and 20 min dive. During last deco stop saw a fresh water sculpin feast oh a fresh water krill.

Saltwater 5/10, 5ft viz pretty much from the top of the south yellow buoy all the way to the bottom of it at 60ft, worse at bottom. It was a little better in the shallows, 10ft maybe.

Redondo 5/10: 5-7ft viz top 40 feet, didn't venture deeper. There were mild out/down currents. Got in a 35 min dive at least. Minimum water temp was 50 degrees F on my computer. Winter minimum temps are usually always 43-44 degrees for me in the South Sound.

Full moon.

Well, just finished two weeks in Bonaire.

Some of the more sheltered sites had close to 100' viz, oddly enough the in town sites had the better viz.

In the South, more exposed to wind sites things could get stirred up from the surge, dropping viz to around 50', maybe even less in the shallows.

60' - 80' was a good average.

My anecdotal observation over the last 9 years is that viz is poorer now. Admittedly, "poorer" is 50' - 60' rather than 100 to 120, so nothing to complain about, but definitely seems to be a trend. There seems to be quite a it of particulate in the water. Algae perhaps? Anyway, just some observations.

5/18 Redondo - once beneath 25 feet of muck it opened up to a nice, mostly particulate free 20 feet of viz.

Saltwater was really quite nice this morning below 50 ft. which opened up to 20-30ft. Above 50 ft it was a yucky 5-10ft. :joshsmith:

In the afternoon below 50ft, viz was about 15-20ft. Top was the same as the earlier dive, not very nice.

Similar at C2 on Friday (high tide) top 40' or so were craptastic, top 20 was likely student-o-cline with 5', 5-10 from 20-40 feet, with the planktocline at ~50 opening up to 15-20

Skyline: about 25-30 feet at depth, slightly less in the mid-range, and about 15 feet in the shallows; around noon - slack current at high tide. Weather up top was pretty nice, as well.

Redondo 5/24 deep line. Murky, 5-7ft viz down to 45 ft. Then some slight improvements with max 10-12ft. Still fun and worth it in my mind.

Redondo tonight a foot or so down to 90fsw. Thought it could not get worse than this mornings low tide. I was wrong.

Sat 5/27 lake crescent 100 plus viz above 20 feet @55 degrees, viz at 340 fsw was about 40 feet @ 43 degrees. Sledgehammer never ceases to impress all the way down to 330 feet or 100 meters.

Wednesday 5/31, 5pm dive Redondo. Low tide (~0ft) close to slack/flood. Quite nice viz below 40ft- up to 15ft. Not great at the surface. We're coming off a spring tide phase into a neap tide. Yea!
