Lots of Octo's in the dens.
We had 1 come out and say "hi", but of course, didn't have the camera on that dive.....

Sounds like Redondo and 3TN are THE places to be right now for early winter viz! If you can get to the south end they are not to be missed... :bounce:

Thanks to all who contribute to this thread, BTW. The more people and the more often you post the more valuable this thread becomes for all of us! :notworthy:

My guess is bad. Lots of streams that run into the canal mean a good halocline and often reduced viz, at least 30fsw and up. You might call Hoodsportndive for a report.

I like to head for the Hood after a nice stretch of cold winter weather. :bounce:

Did two dives with Bassman at Redondo today. Viz was a lousy 8 fsw at best and we had an interesting current during dive number two.

What is up with Redondo currents lately? It's been almost a year of weird currents there that seem to come out of nowhere!! :dontknow:

It has been strange lately. This was a VERY NASTY current that came out of nowhere and only lasted for about five minutes. :dontknow:

Three Tree North, 11-14, variable viz, but nice - as low as 10-15 with particulate in the water and as much as 25. - Still the best viz in the Sound on any given day, IMO! \:D/ Saw 4 GPO's, including 3 in one spot, all of the real good sized, one of them absolutely humongous! Sure seemed like love was in the air... No time to get pics up yet. Got buzzed by a very large male sea lion - easily twice my size and I'm not a little guy. Keith was shouting in his reg, I turned my head to look and this guy buzzed by about 10' away. :pale: Scared the crap out of me, and I'm not too proud to admit it! He did another pass so I got a clear look that wasn't under the shock and awe of adrenaline. This boy was big! Great day in the water - pics later.

No pic's or no video of seeing Tom go... :smt119 :smt065 :boxing: :hello2:

As we were heading towards the Octo boat, I see a huge Sea Lion coming straight for us in a "S" pattern. I couldn't get Tom's attention until it was about five or six feet away. (Okay maybe ten.) Tom's reaction was Priceless! First it was :smt119 , then it was, :smt065 as he stuck out his Light! And then He fought it off with a few desperate light signals. And then it was, :hello2: Thank you for not running into us. And then the next pass, I did not see, but Tom said it came up from behind us and went up and over us.

:laughing3:

It was great! but I have to admit I was a little :smt119 myself, because it was about twice the size/length of Tom!
Who is, by the way, losing allot of weight! Eating good and :naka:
Go Tom! =D>

Three Tree North today was 10' at the beginning, with spots opening up to 20'. Weather was just gorgeous. There was a TON of large debris, branches, stumps, etc floating in the tide.

Anecdotal news of Cove 3 being about 3'.

Hey Tom, did you see your Sea Lion friend again today? Shortly after we were on the beach, a "lumber yard" began floating by close to shore. Any problems with the exit? Bob

Did Point Hudson in Port Townsend today. Viz was OK but even up here we are starting to get allot of suspended particles and lots of logs and other stuff floating around. A couple of seals hanging around but they aren't interested in bubble blowers unless they are overhead and we just don't see them.

I did experiance a wierd current here also that only lasted a short time but was fairly strong and going in a different direction than I would have expected???

Sund Rock this morning was 10' max. Halocline from 0 - 12', lower than that and it was just the usual muck.
Didn't seem to change any at 80', just got darker due to lack of ambient light.
Big octos, wolfies, lots of rockfish, a couple of really small grunt sculpins, and an itsy bitsy sailfin sculpin too.
A seal was hanging around, sneaking up behind divers when they were getting out.
Fun dive, despite the less than stellar viz.
