Three Tree N. night dive W/ Scuba Scott!
Three Tree N. night dive W/ Scuba Scott!
Had a great dive with Scott, on Thursday the 22nd!
Saw some of the largest Spot Prawns I've ever seen here in the P.S. area!
Scott found a large Snail fish and the South boat now has a large mass of Ling eggs inside it.
Learned a new profile on this dive I would like to do again. dropped into about 30 feet initially near the first Big tire Stack.
went straight down, checking out the tire piles and actually went 90+ fsw turned to the South a little. Found a good sized bottle field, that I did not know was there! then we went back up to the 60 or 65 feet and continued over to the S. Boat.
After a few times around the boat we continued South towards the point turned and went up to the 30 or 40 fsw and went directly back to the tire pile we started at. turned out to be a great profile.
maybe Scott will post a few pictures.

Viz was 10 - 15 feet. Not great, but not bad. Had a good dive.
Life can be short and dives even shorter. Time off work will put it all in perspective.

I thought vis was much better at depth, but then again, it's all realitive to the type of light you use on a night dive. And Scott did not have his can light on this dive.

Re: Three Tree N. night dive W/ Scuba Scott!
So, what's the night dive status, really? Seems there has always been a sign saying you couldn't do night dive (park closed after dark kind of thing]
Rumor was that a local put it up to discourage 'riff raf'. Whether divers are in that category depends on your perspective. But the locals really DID have problem with kids drinking and tossing bottles and a few people were a bit bent over peeing in the bushes.
Most recent rumor is that the sign is 'for real' and the cops will be called but I think that is due to primarily the drinking issue.
Anyone every busted or been chewed out by the authorities?
Anyone know FOR SURE what the status is? No more rumors. Something like, I called/talked to the cops/City Hall/whatever and they said....

There is no sign at 3tn that says anything about being there after dark.

Hmm, was last time I was there, right at the entrance by the gate. Been there a long while. Admittedly it's been awhile (fall sometime?) since I looked.

I guess I've never read it and we've done plenty of night dives there with no problems at all.....

I dove TTN this afternoon and paused to take a photo of the posted sign.
Rule #1 seems to be pretty clear to me but anybody can take their chances.
A close up so you can read the sign.

I tend to not use the public beach. Walk right past that area and jump in.

I would have to agree with Scott on this one. We use the parking area to gear up and then walk directly into the water, dive and then walk directly back up to the parking area. If some one wanted to give me a fine for walking in an out of the water. I would fight that one!
Our night dives or any other dives, as far as I'm concerned, do not "use" the Public beach. I think that sign is for the teens or others, who would use the beach area, at night, for a hang out. I've done several night dives there and have always been considerate to not make allot of noise or shine a dive light into a house window. And we have never had anyone ask or tell us not to be there at night.
That being said, It is a great night dive and we still need to be considerate of the local neighborhood there. If divers started to be a nuisance or caused any kind of disturbance there at night. I'm sure thy could easily close down that parking area at night, and then... well you know. ](*,)

I think that we need to test this theory tomorrow evening! My cold has finally started to diminish.

Re: Three Tree N. night dive W/ Scuba Scott!
Interesting. I've spoken to some locals there who don't mind the divers at all.
It's probably a case of whether a local calls the police or not. If the divers are polite, quiet, and respectful, I doubt anyone would care. If they're loud and disrespectful, then perhaps they deserve the ticket.
This also goes for using 1000psi to blast that drop of water out of your dust cap. Seriously, does it take a ear-piercing blast of gas from a tank to clear ONE DROP of water from the dust cap when a quick swab with a t-shirt or towel will do it and not awake the dead? Please use a towel (mini-rant over) and keep things quiet and peaceful.

Ever seen a 130 hurled across a parking lot with stunning tack-driving accuracy? :naka:scottsax wrote:Note to self: things not to do next time I dive with Matt...spatman wrote:lol. that's a total peeve of mine too.

Does it look sorta like a 119 hurled across a parking lot with stunning tack-driving accuracy, only slightly taller?

I will see you at 5. Got my light working last night. Need to go fill tanks today. If you are interested, we can car pool from my house to reduce cars at parking lot.
Life can be short and dives even shorter. Time off work will put it all in perspective.
