Oct. 24 - NWDC Club Dive ... Keystone! - CANCELLED
Re: Oct. 24 - NWDC Club Dive ... Keystone!
You can get onto the island from North, South or West. The Keystone-Port Townsend ferry is the west one, and if you live on the peninsula might be your best bet. Coming up I-5, you can get off at the Mukilteo ferry to board towards Clinton, then follow Highway 20 north until you see signs pointing you at Keystone ferry. To take the land route, follow I-5 north until you see the Highway 20/Whidbey Island/Anacortes ferry exit, exit 230. You get to cross the spectacular Deception Pass Bridge, and if you have spare moments, tis great to park and walk the bridge. Then follow 20 south until you see signs for the Keystone ferry again.

I'll have to give this one some thought . . . I love Keystone, but I have to drive to Moses Lake that evening, so it will depend on energy level more than anything else.

The Rock House where I live is not very big but it has a small spare room and a large back and front yard. If anybody else needs a place were to crash or park a van or a small camper give me a shout!Blaiz wrote:Since I live about 15 minutes from keystone, I will offer my home and yard to anyone who wants to pitch a tent or toss down a sleeping bag... and count on me to be there!

Scooter run from Keystone to Fort Casey could be interesting ... unless you time it wrong with the ferry ...Blaiz wrote:I'll feed and care for your scooter while you're out....take it for long runs in the park, etc....Dashrynn wrote:Well we go back out again afterwords too, I should be on leave all of nov and part of december...so i can dive my tail off then! :luv:Blaiz wrote:

I haven't been to Keystone. I'm looking forward to getting my gills wet. I'll leave after work in the early AM and this should work nicely for me on a Sunday.
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

We're hoping to be there, maybe even do two dives including on to the pilings.

Count me in. How many dives we gonna do?
Re: Oct. 24 - NWDC Club Dive ... Keystone!
If you make a weekend of it, could probably get in 6-8 I imagine. My house and Tubesnout's have both been offered as a place to park, camp, or crash as needed.mjgoodman wrote:Count me in. How many dives we gonna do?

Especially where the speed limit changes from 50/55 to 40/45 and, of course, while crossing the Deception Pass Bridge!..and lately I have seen 3/4 crashes, I have lost count of them, within 4 weeks!Blaiz wrote:Just a public service reminder to everyone:

(ps a friend of mine did get two tickets within a day! and you never know when the cops are going to show up. Sometimes there is none around and others they are all over the place!)

Re: Oct. 24 - NWDC Club Dive ... Keystone!
FWIW, I think the best splash time will be around 12:30pm. After that there will be some current and it won't be comfortable at the end of the breakwater - especially for those wanting to take photos. Can hang out where the current splits half way out the breakwater though, and the pilings and drift to the breakwater will work fine all afternoon if you don't mind kicking a little.Grateful Diver wrote:Mark your calendars ...
This one's in honor of our Whidbey Island and north Sound residents. C'mon down ... current charts say we should be able to dive pretty much the whole afternoon.
