Post-Season Crab Pot Pull?

Post by Emilyrc »

I don't know the regulations, but I would like to do a post-season lost crab pot pull. I don't know how it would work out, but I know a few people that have lost crab pots this year and I can only imagine how many more are down there. I saw that crabs can live for 50 days in a pot if they can't get out, so the sooner the better?

Recovering lost gear for people would be cool but if your worried about the pots killing crab the game regs require a section of cotton line that will rot out and open the mesh of the pot thus releasing any crab still in it.

I'm aware of the cotton line reg, but they don't break down for 30 days or so. And that's assuming everybody follows the regulations with newer pots. I'm sure there are old pots in some of the popular areas that don't have the cotton line.

That, and just cleaning up the garbage that isn't for building new "reef" areas for the wildlife.
