Friday March 2rd dive.

Post by Nwcid »

So originally I had planned on coming over to the west side on the 25th for a dive day, http://www.nwdiveclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17450 I found out yesterday that is the only day my co-instructor can not get out of work so I have to be here for class. This means I have to pick a different day to come over.

So is anyone able to dive on 3-2? I am still thinking Les Davis unless there is a better or easier option.

Sorry I originally put up Friday 3-3 but Friday is the 2nd not the 3rd.

Well currents early in the morning are good that day

Saturday 2012-03-03
Sunrise 6:45 AM PST, Sunset 5:59 PM PST
Moonset 3:43 AM PST, Moonrise 12:58 PM PST

Slack Water: 2:33 AM PST -0.0
Max Ebb: 5:49 AM PST -1.0
Slack Water: 8:07 AM PST 0.0
Max Flood: 10:13 AM PST 1.3

I dont know when they open the gates at Sunrise SP, but that would be a great day to dive it. You have to be able to handle THE WALK of DOOM :boxer: Usually people splash 45 minutes before slack which would be about 730am.

I see all the info you listed but it is all jiberish to me. This is why we want to go with experienced divers. I have heard of the terms but have no idea what they mean in practical terms.

It means you want to dive at around 7:30am to hit slack (areas between flood and ebb with little/no current)

Sorry I should have known to explain and if you guys are new maybe not a good idea to dive there.

EBB is the current flowing OUT of Puget sound and the numbers are in KNOTS. you would want to dive when the KNOTS is the lowest usually between 1.5-2.0 the lower the better. Like you see Max Ebb: 5:49 AM PST -1.0 and Max Flood: 10:13 AM PST 1.3

FLOOD is the incoming current and tide which is 1.3 KNOTS and EBB (outgoing tide and current) is -1.0 KNOTS

Now I will not admit to being the expert at predicting WHEN to splash but from other divers 45 minutes before SLACK which means NO CURRENT to speak of but then again it is a prediction. Nothing is set in stone.

It was strange for me when I first started diving, but it is not as hard as it looks. I use WXTIDE32 and I am sure other can suggest better current programs they use.

Hope I kinda helped you understand it better

Jeff Makes a good point, if you are new, you should consider Les Davis, as its non current sensitive,or redondo, or up to Seattle Cove 2 or even 3.

Thanks for the update. It does help some. We are dry siders so all things Ocean are pretty foreign to me. I will be learning though.

Based on the info I got in the other post I did list in my original post that Les Davis would be preferred for those reasons.

OK now your just messing with me I know I am not narced you changed the date to the 2nd

I could do Les Davis but after 930am as I have to drop my son off at school around 9am. I live close by Les Davis, it would only take me 15-20 minutes to get there.

Its all good.

We were hoping to get wet about 10:00. If there are better times that is ok, but that is our goal.

Sounds like a good plan. I will be kicking this up again when it gets closer too. I live week by week as many do but a trip across the state and working with many schedules takes a little more effort.

We each have an HP-100. I am more worried about temperature since we will both be diving wet. We do have 7mm full with 7mm Farmers though.

I will be sure to bring my 10 gallon cooler with hot water just in case. It help to heat up your wet glives and hoods between dives. It is fine if you guys can only do 1 dive I remember the wet suit days BRRRRRRRRRRR

If it doesn't work out with plans for Les Davis, I'd be happy to meet up for a dive at the Coves, Redondo or Edmonds that day.
