Boat rendezvous

Post by CaptnJack »

4ster and I were talking on another board... I think its time to have another NWDC boat dive rendezvous. Last time was in Discovery Bay and that was way too long ago.

I'm going to suggest the Shilshole barges/Omar, Saturday December 1st.

If you have a boat and want to make this a festival chime in for this day or propose another :) If you don't have a boat, we'll be accepting diver spots once the number of boats and their capacity is worked out.

I think our boat is out for the winter. We have no canvas (thanks to the ill-fated DK trip) and still haven't solved the overheating problem on the engine.

I have no canvas anytime of year!

Do you remember when the impeller was last replaced? That's a fairly budget job. Takes about 2 hrs the first time.

The impeller was replaced after the previous outing. I think the problem may be the thermostat. But every trip to the boat hospital costs us $1000, and this year, we aren't spending boat units that don't have to be spent.

Thermostats are like $12, there's 2 of them in a V6 like yours, probably on the top of the block.
You can test them by taking them out (2 bolts each) putting them in a pan of water and slowly turning up the heat until they open while checking the temp. Unless they are obviously clogged with weeds.

Yes and no. A bunch of us went out to Lake WA and did the landing craft, the PBM and the Gigolo last Spring. I think we had NWBrewer, ORdiver, and my boats, plus about 9 additional divers.

Overheating is pretty simple to diagnose, thermostat, radiator, or water pump.

But... overheating could also be a blown head gasket.

Canvas? What's canvas? I'm in as long as I can get my on call covered at work. That shouldn't be much of an issue.

Damn. That was a long time ago. You need to organize more boat regattas! Wish I could come, but I sold my dry suit. Haha

I'm in, if we are calling spots now. I thought we were waiting to get the boat situation figured out first. But since I basically have no life, I can go on pretty much any date

No Capt. He loves you too but you can't split the cost of gas from Portland.

I might be able to join in on this one with H2Odoctor. Don't know yet what boat we will use.

Ok maybe this wasn't the way to go about this...
If ya got a boat and can bring it please chime in. Boyd? NWBrewer? 4ster? ScottC? Bueller?

I'd rather not have folks arranging their own trip offline with their homies, talking about the full boat they're bringing, but not offering any spaces to NWDC peeps. So please no more of this dibs 6 weeks away business until those of us with actual space on a boat get our act together.

If you're implying that we don't have a boat. Yes, we do have a boat. As a matter of fact, we have two. But, like I said, not sure yet if we can go. Will let this thread know within reasonable time. H2Odoctor doesn't even know about this, but I'm dragging him along. And I'm not implying that anybody isn't welcome on our boat. I think, people that dive with me can vouch that I don't care much about "clicks" or "homies". For the record, I don't like diving with "clicky" groups, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Sorry, if my reply was not clear enough.

Hahaha. I love it. NWDC... The place where boat owners can offer to take a regatta of folks out diving and within a day, have it turn into...whatever this is.

If I was there, EVERYONE would want to come on my boat. I'm just that cool. Lol

Problem is, I would want to be on Boydski's boat. That thing was NICE.

Hi Richard,

We are going to try and bring the Dive Bum if the weather is good. I'll have a better idea on how many people we can take when we get closer to the date (2-4). The stand-up head and big diesel heater on the boat seem to be very popular in the winter.
