When would be a good splash time?

Thoughts?

Okay, so I finally get on PYD and looked at the Current / Tide for Deception Pass on Wednesday.
A certain diver told me this was a "good day" Around 9:00am'ish, to dive deception pass and there will likely not be a day like this for a while.
Then he says he can't do the dive, but I should go for it!
I don' get it.
What is it about a, 5 knot and 6 knot currents with an 8 foot exchange makes this a good time to dive Deception Pass?

Maybe 9:00 pm? :smt064

The rule I've heard from my local dive shop is that Deception Pass is divable if the max currents on either side of slack add up to less than 11 on flood.

This occurs on the 7th around the 9:52AM slack. So you should be able to get there ready to get in around 9:00-9:15 or so...you will be able to tell when it's swimmable. You may have to kick a bit as you head east, but the current will go slack and drift you right back to where you started. It's a great dive!

The real issue to look into here is whether or not the parking lot is open. I think they close the north beach parking lot for the winter around November 1st.

I'd love to do this dive with you but I'm blowing all my vacation days on Bonaire next week...which is partly your fault.... ;)

Have a great time in Bonaire!!!! :highfive:

Thanks for the info!

Yeah I think I was planning to bring a cart for hauling gear there!

So, still waiting for someone to grab the lead on this one...Anyone? :smt064

Bonaire is an acceptable reason, not to blow a Vacation day on this but, this is Deception Pass guys! :pirate:

Yeah, I would say splash at 9:15. The rule of 11 that Jeremy mentioned along with the very large amount of time between predicted max and slack is what makes this diveable. Go look at the currents for Oct. 7th (when I last dove it with Jeremy and Don). You will notice that its the same deal. We splashed at 9:01 am and did a 40 minute dive.

Oh, and Jeremy, I had to cop out of doing it. My suit is broken

I was at Deception Pass yesterday. North Beach parking lot it closed, so you will have to pack your gear quite a ways.

If you know someone with a last minute boat in the area (thus avoiding the misery of packing gear to the site) I might be able to dive Wednesday. Good chance I'd have a third person too.

After an accumulation of more than three personal reasons, not to do this dive (life getting in the way...)
Along with having a sore knee, I'm not going anywhere, to dive tomorrow. Better to be on the safe side of things, so I can still dive on Thursday! :supz:
