Regarding the mines -- they often still find mines in the Baltic Sea, dating from WWII. They are now extremely volatile and have to blown up ASAP whenever they are found.

When we dove the wrecks in Truk Lagoon last year, several of the ships had rooms full of land mines stacked to the ceilings. It kind of makes you wonder how safe that situation really is after all these years.
