Key Largo - April

Post by ArcticDiver »

I hope I'm not jinxing myself. But another nerve group woke up a little while ago so I'm planning my Get Wet Trip. I like Key Largo so that is probably where I'll go. Plan will be for April unless some info says I should go at a different time.

Never been there in April. Weather? Water? Lodging is generally pretty easy. Same then?

I usually dove with Silent World with a totally different style operation, Rainbow Reef, on occasion. I heard that Silent World is under new management. Still a good op?

Rainbow Reef?

Can someone move this to Dive Planning, where it belongs.

I love Key Largo! I have done 5 different trips there, and I was there last April. The weather was nice, we had temps around 80 degrees. The seas were calm, we had 4-5 foot swells at the Spiegel and Duane, but the shallow reefs were flat calm. The viz was 100 feet plus on all dives except one. One of our Spiegel dives we had about 40 feet with a decent current. One of the nice things about April is the lack of humidity. I think May is the perfect month for the Keys, with April being a close second.

Thanks Bric. I had forgotten you had been there in the same time period.

Any comments on the New Silent World?

I use Ocean Divers, I can't help you with info about silent world. Check the decostop. I am sure you will get some opinions there.

Me too. It would be fun to do some of those shallow, easy dives where you don't actually need either a computer or even tables.

Docs cleared me long ago. But, reality is that it is a ways yet before I can pass myself as strong enough to handle a rocking boat with cylinders on my back. Also, I'm one of those snake bitten people who seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when other people have problems. Just can't mind my own business and swim away.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, has gone as speedily as I wanted, so my timetable may be perturbed again. Right now I plan on buying plane tickets end of February after we return from HI.

I typically go to Key Largo every March (spring break). I enjoy diving with Rainbow Reef. Have a great diving year.
