Visiting the Area Sept 5th - 12th.

Post by ffdiver »

Hey everyone!

I'm Danny. I'll be visiting the Seattle/Vancouver area in early Sept. The 5th through the 12th to be more exact.

I'm looking for an experienced buddy to show me the local sites either shore or boat doesn't matter to me much. I will be traveling with my wife and infant so if there is a park or beach where they can hang out while I dive that would be awesome too.

I'm an instructor and Full cave/Tech diver. I normally dive sidemount but may switch to backmount if absolutely needed.

Hey Danny - There's a club dive going on September 6th

Although I haven't been to one in a couple of years they draw a pretty good crowd and you should have no problems hooking up with a buddy.

Sidemount is fine around here. you could rent a few AL 80's and weights at Hoodsport-n-dive (http://www.hoodsportndive.com/) which is about a mile up the road. I would call in advance and reserve your tanks.

Do you know any shops that rent hp 100s or lp 85s? I'm not too keen on the idea of al 80s in a drysuit with I'm assuming thick underwear.

Hoodpsort 'n dive might have some if you go to the club dive - they are not convenient to the rest of the Seattle area, though. Contact them first to see what they have: http://www.hoodsportndive.com/index.php ... ent-rental

Lighthouse is in Seattle and lists them on their rental page, they might be worth contacting as well:
http://lighthousediving.com/rental.htm

Fifth D has limited rental inventory as I recall, but might also have larger tanks for rent:

Diving around here can be pretty murky, especially in the summer. If you have a good light I strongly recommend packing it.

Welcome!

Hi Danny,

I can do after work on any of those days or all of them for that matter. I generally want to dive more often than not so I'm always looking for someone to go with. I'm just starting to get into the tech stuff -- still diving a backmount single. I am familiar with a good smattering of the local shore dives though. Send me a message if you are still looking.

Cheers,
Greg

Ok so it looks like I may be able to get two dives (days) in that week in the seattle area. I'm going to try and dive vancouver too.

Sat I can do I dive. It may be right in the seattle city area or later in the afternoon near anacortes, since we wanna do the whale watching on the San Juan Islands on sunday. And then maybe wends or thursday. Do any boats go out during the week or is that strictly a weekend activity?

Hey Danny,

Most of the whale watch charters have daily tours and don't limit things to the weekends. There has been some recent activity up that way and there are currently 3-pods (K, L, and J) moving through the area. They were last sighted on 8/19 near Lime Kilm state park. There have also been some sighting of a lone humpback whale in the area as well as a mink whale, some sea-lions and various porpoise.

I may be around during your stay in the area and would be happy to take you out if available on the day you have in mind. Let me know.

Sincerely,

Kyle
