Hood canal water Temps

Post by Wade »

I'm coming to dive with my buddy at Mike's dive resort on Hood canal. This is our first time at the Sound. We are both advanced open water. Our trip is planned for the weekend of September 23. Any idea what water Temps might be that time. Our last dive was in Lake Pend-Or illegal. It was 47F at depth. We both are using 7mil.

My dive log shows 50's near the surface, high 40's at depth around Aug-Sep.

The Hoodsport buoy is showing much higher temps right now, 61F at 3m below the surface. That's amazing... and kind of scary. I wouldn't count on it.

There will be a thermocline. I can't say how significant it will be, that depends on the weather and tides.

Huh, I'd never looked at that buoy data before. It takes some wild swings! The surface water got above 70F in July and August. You can see when the rainy, colder weather moved through in late August.
