Dave?

If you follow the driving directions I poste dosted you will actuly pass a dive shop in or about the town of Shelton,WA
Mike's Diving on your right.

Keep going out 101 and you will come to a RV park on your right just past the sign for The Sund Rock Dive Site .

Turn Right as if you wanted to enter the Rv Park and there will be a building next to the water in the right hand corner of the RV Park
that is the Dive shop there is a Diver Down Sign at the Road

you sould see it ok not that hard to find.

try this see if it takes you to my Web page I have some pictures of Dive Sites on there also http://spaces.msn.com/sparkysdivesite/P ... =1&_c= I also have maps of some of the dive sites.
any questions give me a call tomorrow night at home after 5:0 pm

Sund rock conditions

Post by lostnbrownsmead »

I just checked with Mike at Hoodsport n Dive. He said the rock will probably beaten up but it should be fine for diving when entering the water by the parking lot. Sparky and I are still planning to dive. Is anyone going to join us?

If conditions allow is anyone planning a night dive? You need to tell Mike so he can plan accordinally.

Hope to see you there.

How does the weather affect our plans for tomorrow? I mean if all hell is going to break loose it would be better to stay out of water. But you people who know the site and conditions better make the decision.

I'm about to hitch a ride from Scubak to the site on saturday morning and we should arrive around 9:30am.

Change of dive plans.

Post by lostnbrownsmead »

I guess I had better change my dive plans.

I looked at the weather and it does not look very good. 40 knot winds 7 ft seas in the Canal is pretty rough. huge storm off shore https://www.fnmoc.navy.mil/products/WXM ... 4.epac.gif

Sund rock beach entry is fairly protected but i think the surge will be pretty rough if you get to far around the corner towards the rock.

Looks like it might be a good day to stay here and weather out the storm at home. The weather service is expecting sustained winds of 30 to 45 mph winds with gusts to 60 mph in the Astoria area and with gusts to 80 to 90 mph on the headlands. I will probably lose power again, due to trees falling down.

Maybe next weekend I will get my new camera wet.

Looks like the consensus is leaning toward not going to Hood Canal. Dave, what do you think? I personally wouldn't want to drive that far and then not be able to dive. :pale: I like to play by ear and listen to mother nature if she's telling me not to dive. I'm not totally out, but I'm leaning toward doing something closer to home in case we can't dive, then we didn't go on such a long haul.

Janne, I would recommend against going boat diving if that is what you're referring to.

Sparky, I'm not sure if this is the map or not. I didn't get the email so I went to your site and this is the map of Sund Rock that I could find.

I talked to Mike this morning and he suggested that we not dive. Strong winds, heavy surf and waves. I have done this before at Hood Canal and it isn't any fun, especially with twins on, trying to get in the water. Viz was sooo bad. I really want to dive but don't want to drive 2 hours to call a dive. The news said that 60-70mph winds are equivalent to a hurricane. NO THANK YOU!!! No wonder why Bandito isn't going out and the boat cancelled on us in the Sah Juans.
Guess I will stay home and hope to splash on Sun..Early

What do you guys say about doing some dives in or around the Seattle area instead? That way if we need to call the dive its not that much of a time/driving investment? Can anyone recommend a dive site that is relatively protected from the winds? Sparky, you guys could come do the dives with us, then head to Hood Canal and do your dives there on Sunday (which you're crazy to be doing instead of watching the Super Bowl).
