Titlow, Tuesday the 21st

Post by Tom Nic »

After our midday dive at DIW, Bassman, Diver C, and Bob Lew went to Titlow for a second dive. Titlow was Titlow... lots of life, (if you slow down to look) enough current to make us have to take it into account, but not enough to ruin the dive. The place was lousy with Buffalo Sculpins! There were more of them than usual for Titlow, and usual at Titlow is lots of Buffalo Sculpins! You practically had to swat them out of the way! :smt065 :-) We did a 60 minute dive, surfacing with almost half a tank of gas.

Have I mentioned what an amazing critter spotter Bob Lew is?!? If he's not the best I've ever dove with he is in the top 3! Most of the cool critters in these pics were spotted by Bob. Plus he's a great dive buddy! Bassman and myself ended up planning, then aborting a DIW night dive. We ended up leaving Bob Lew without a dive buddy for the 3rd dive... my apologies Bob. :prayer: I owe you a dive or three! \:D/

Some pictures from the dive are here.

Here's a few:

This Red Rock was getting ready to make a meal of a Northern Kelp Crab!

I just love these Gunnels! The first one was in 5' of water as we were ending our dive!

This was a good sized Grunt Sculpin. I should have spent more time shooting pics of him. The white on him was so strong he almost looked like an albino!

And last but not least, Titlow is the place to find Giant Barnacles! (I'm not looking forward to the removal of the pilings... lots of life will be lost, even if it is a "necessary" thing.)

I will agree that Bob Lew is one of the BEST critter finders around and a very enjoyable dive buddy.

Another vote for Bob as a great dive buddy.

Love the gunnel pictures! It's always a treat to find those little guys.
