Three tree and tides

Post by JJHACK »

Looks like high tide is about 5pm Saturday. Is that a proper ride for diving three tree?

I visit Seattle fairly often to dive in parallel with other responsibility. Any local folks more familiar with three tree give some guidance?

I know I can dive Les Davis and Alki but want to explore this location when the tides are right.

Tides are not super critical at TTN in terms of timing slack, however on large exchange days the current can move pretty good. I've done dives where the current was super annoying and was a factor affecting the dive but not enough to end it, but ymmv. If I was super uncomfortable in some current I'd make sure I was within an hour or so of predicted slack.

If you target around that high slack you should be fine.

Also, because of the topography there any current 90% of the time flows North to South and almost NEVER switches in the middle of the dive. Head into it if present and you can ride it back to the entry.

Great site, lots to see and explore on multiple dives.

TTN can have current that is stronger towards the point, and stronger during a fast flood. Ebbs are usually fine unless they're extreme. Check the wind forecast for north winds.

You should be good to go 5pm sat. I'd join and show you but I'm out of town.

The boat with octo underneath it would probably be at about 60' at that time. Probably about 150 yards from entrance, to the right. (we often walk along shore a good part of the way because the boat is where the best of the reef starts)

Have fun!

Yes, and that octo is a feisty one! He tried to take my camera last time I was there, then tried to chase us away.
