Redondo 10-20-07

Post by WylerBear »

Dviernick, my buddy Darice, and I hit Redondo yesterday hoping that the weather hadn't screwed up the viz too much. And it hadn't!!! And neither had the class that was there. We easily had 30' horizontal viz. It was fantastic!
Nick had never been to Redondo so it was a special treat for me to show him one of my favorite sites. He was a great dive buddy and great critter spotter. After missing the Grunt Sculpin on the first dive, he made up for it by finding his very first Grunt by himself on the second dive. And his second Grunt, and his third. Along with spotting a couple of Red Octos and a Hooded Nudibranch. Talk about over-achiever!
We also saw a Black Rockfish-something I don't think I've seen at Redondo before but they do seem to be everywhere this year. And the Hooded Nudibranch which I've also never seen there before.
So, all in all, a couple of fun dives.

Glad someone else saw the black rockfish at Redondo. I got a picture of it on September 23, before my camera flooded, in front of the lamp shades and people still didn't believe me.

I haven't seen more than one, though, and that is unusual for the black rockfish, they seem to want to school. Maybe there are more of them out there somewhere. I have only been there at night lately.

Georgia,

When were you there on Saturday? I wonder if we must have passed each other and didn't notice. I was there (with the classes all morning) We had 3 seperate classes at 3 different times. I think we only mucked it up for the 1st set of divers. The 2nd group was pretty good on buoyancy and the last diver in the water on Saturday was my SO.. She's certified now and I couldn't be prouder of her in the water.. She's a natural.. :supz:

Great pics too!

Cheers,

Holly

Holly,
We were the 3 buddy dive team that passed the classes for our 2 dives. We all smiled at each other. Wish I had known you were with the class-it would have been nice to meet.
Congrats to your partner. You're lucky-mine won't even get in the pool on scuba gear much less get certified. Sigh. Oh well, we can't all like the same things I suppose...

Georgia, thanks a ton for letting me tag along with you. I think the two dives we did were some of the best I've ever had. I had a lot of firsts that day: first time at Redondo, first time diving with you-which was great, first 3 grunt sculpins-which I can't believe I found, first hooded nudibranch, first time I've had two hour-long dives. I think I need to go to Redondo more often.

Nick

Oh, I borrowed some of your pictures, I hope you don't mind.

Yeah, I know.. I think I am going to have to start putting my screen name stitched somewhere on my drysuit.. ;)

Well the water isn't for everyone.. But I never could understand what she was holding back for.. She's always loved being in the water, like me. Then we started planning a trip to Cancun. I think that's what got her really thinking about it..

We'll officially "meet" one of these days. We're both in the water too much not too!
