Big Buddy/Club Dive - Redondo, August 16th!

Post by Penopolypants »

It’s that time again!

Big Buddy/Club Dive/BBQ time, that is. Less of an organized event, more of a vaguely controlled chaos. But there will be food. And diving. What more could you want?

When: August 16th, 9:00 a.m.
Where: Redondo, home of the Pacific Spiny Lumpsuckers
Who: Your bad self. And anyone else who likes do dive. Or that's fun to hang out with during the surface intervals.

You know the drill. If you don’t, here it is…

This is a big buddy/little buddy/I don’t know if I’m either/I just want to go diving/BBQ/hey let’s hang out event.

If you’re a new or new-ish diver and want to dive with someone more experienced, this is your chance! If there is a particular skill you want to learn or see in action, this is the time! If you want to try out different gear (bp/w? different tank? ) this may be the time! :dontknow: Let me know beforehand so I can scrounge up some stuff.

Or if you just want to put some faces to some avatars, come on down!

We’ll find you buddies if you don’t have one, or I can match you up to a big buddy if you’re a little buddy.

Critical info:
Meet at 9:00
1st Splash at 10:00-ish
Hangout/surface interval
2nd splash 12:00 or so
BBQ!
And a third splash for Nailer’s special idiots who want a third dive.

I will bring the BBQ in a Subaru (grills/charcoal/tables/canopy/utensils/plates/stove/kettle/French press/coffee/tea/trash bags)

The rest of the BBQ is potluck. We’ve had really good luck with someone volunteering to bring a Costco-type mess o’ burgers, another bringing hotdogs, buns, etc., and others bringing tasty morsels to share. If you already have a buddy it’s probably best if you coordinate with that buddy to bring maybe one dish between the two of you. Too much yummy food isn’t a bad thing, though.

We’ll need:
Burgers
Hotdogs
Buns
Condiments
Water/drinks
Snacks for the surface interval
Salads (potato, pasta, etc.)
Fruits/veggies
Desserts
All-Natural Cheetos. These are very important.
And by all means, there isn’t a ban on chips. Just….maybe not so many. :)

Who’s in? Please post here if you can make it and what you’ll be bringing.

Excellent!

Here's a map:

There isn't an address but the intersection is Redondo Way and Redondo Beach Rd.

I thought I posted before... I must be losing it! #-o
My DH and I would love to be little buddys at this dive on the 16th. I'm gonna let him tell you what he wants to do...
I'ld love to continue working on my dry suit stuff. I've been having trouble corking and was able this week-end to implement some tips from the DUI rep that helped a lot. And had a GREAT :supz: dive at the critter watch at the Keystone Jetty. So... I'm looking to build on that experience, and would like to start doing some navigation as I took a class and would like to actually start navigating with purpose! hehe so... if anyone is up for a fairly simple dive, I'm your buddy...

That's exactly what these dives are about! We'll pair you with someone who can work with you on that.

Count me in! I am attempting to frog kick on Saturday and am working on the list of other skills that I need to work on (all of them, really). I make a mean snack platter, so I will definitely pull my own snack weight.

I'll be there.

In fact, I'll be doing one or more of Sheri's AOW dives that day.

I'm going to make up a little navigation course, suitable for Redondo's north beach. If any of the little buddies want a free navigation workshop, I'll provide a short (half-hour or so) seminar on underwater navigation ... probably around 11 AM ... and then you and your big buddy can head off and try your hand at the nav course.

I'll bring some burgers along for the potluck ...

I would love to be there, but I will be on my way to Costa Rica. I'll make up for it by navigating my way to the swim-up pool bar.

This is a great chance to really work on your basic compass skills and get some quality mentoring too!! If I'm able to make it, I'll bring a couple extra compasses for folks too.
