My gut reaction: bull****

Clearwater Seafoods stated: "There is zero scientific evidence, not one shred of scientific evidence, that these fisheries do any damage to the bottom environment whatsoever," Risley said after a speech to the St. John's Board of Trade. "

Comment: His scientific search must have been limited to the back of his Cocoa Puffs at breakfast.

Risley's comments came hours after a United Nations draft report found trawlers' nets crumble coral and dig up clouds of sediment that smother sea life.

Comment: Conveniently ignored.

I love the comment:

Risley said he is not opposed to a prohibition on trawling in sensitive areas of the ocean floor, but added such a ban would be ineffective because countries that violate fishing laws would simply continue to do so.

Translation: "Gee ... EVERYONE else is doing it, so why shouldn't I do it too?"
