Enchantment Lakes backpacking/photography trip

Post by YellowEye »

Hi
I won the lottery! ...The lottery to backpack the Enchantments, one of the premier hiking areas in the state, in the first week of October this year. :partydance:

I plan this to be a photography-heavy trip. Here's one website I found which shows some of the photo opportunities. http://www.garyluhm.net/lightroomwebstu ... ents_2010/
:supz:

This is a pretty big backpack trip, I'm thinking of doing 3 or 4 nights. Anybody interested in joining? If so let me know, and we can discuss further. I need to fill out the party size when I confirm my reservation in the next couple of weeks. There can be up to 8 in a party.

Sounds like a blast! I went up to Vivian Lake but snow prevented me from venturing further into the Enchantments. It was drop dead gorgeous! And we had lots of goats hanging out with us at our tent. :)

Great area but a bit crowded, October right before the snow is probably the best time, the larches and hopefully the peaks will have snow

Wife and I did a small trip to the base of Asgaard Pass last month, but legs wouldnt let us go further! Would love to spend a few days up higher in the enchantments. Looking forward to your photos.

Hey we did the enchantments last year and 'won' the lottery again this year. We were supposed to go october 12th but can't go. :( I hope you have fun and can't wait to see the photos! Did you get core permit? We stayed at Colchuck and day hiked up asguard. Which was so much easier.

Hi
Yes, we have a core pass. We were planning on going up and down snow creek. We're watching the weather, we may cancel or delay our trip by a day or two. You're welcome to join if you like!

When did you go up aasgard? Golden larches yet?

We went in august last year. We went UP asguard. It wasn't so bad. I actually wouldn't consider doing it in the snow. People do it though.

I've been up Asgard several times. Its not as bad as the reputation IMO. The trail switchbacks adequately to lessen the grade, and the overall distance is considerably shorter than via Snow Creek. I've been down it in late winter and that wasn't very much fun, despite being fast since you can pretty much go straight down once the snow covers the boulders.

Hi
We were supposed to go wed-sun. We bailed :( We will have to try again soon. Would next weekend, but I'm going to Port Hardy.

We went for a day hike at Cutthroat Pass instead, in hopes of seeing the golden larches elsewhere. They weren't quite golden yet, but still a great hike!
