Real American craftsmanship!

Post by Dusty2 »

For the gun lovers here, and I know there are many. Fine american craftsmanship still exists and it's called Cabbot guns! Now you just have to figure out how to pay for it! :smt064

Wow. I am not a 1911 fan in any way, but that is a seriously beautiful piece of craftsmanship.

I went Yugo for my latest acquisition this week (M70AB2) and it definitely didn't get polished or machined anywhere near those standards. Of course, not the purpose... :)
There are no stupid questions, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots...

But will it stand up to saltwater?

Just kidding, it is beautiful! Is it yours?

You put a bullet in it, pull the trigger and it goes bang.

Sorry, I couldn't resist :tomnic:

Yeah, yeah. :)
I ask because I own a Wilson and have shot a Les Baer. I've also fitted a custom barrel into a Kimber with an Aimpoint sight for shooting 2700 outdoor matches. Hadn't heard of Cabbot prior to this. Their website doesn't give any numbers on accuracy.

it says 3" at 50 yards out of the box. Lets just say that the national Champion 4 years in a row shoots a cabot 1911.

Makes me start rethinking the 1959 National Match I've up for sale. On a hand rest it'll put 10 in the X-ring at 50 yards. A smooth, accurate 1911 is a dream.
The only box you have to think outside of is the one you build around yourself.

I'm an over and under guy myself but the classic double is a pretty gun. They do have some awesome craftsmanship. But their prices are pretty much in the stratosphere. $14,000. for the basic model? Ouch!

Yes, very much over the top. But i become "price blind" when i look at things like these because they are way out of my league. I think it's beautiful to see things put into metal and wood that I wouldn't be able to begin to draw on paper. This sort of thing is becoming a lost art.

Funny but with all the new advances it computer aided machining, lazer engraving and such they are actually easier to do now days. The secret though and it always will be is the right people with the right skills and those are getting harder to find because all the jobs in those skills are being offloaded overseas. Sad
