Close encounters of the orca kind

Post by oldsalt »

While on a friend's boat yesterday, we left Langley and headed into a light wind to set the sails, a pod of orca swam by us. The law says we are to keep our distance from them, but we were adrift and couldn't move. My friend got a couple shots with his phone. In the first shot the whale is barely visible off the port bow.
Orca to port
Orca to port
In this second shot there is one nearby to port and another to starboard.
whales port and starboard
whales port and starboard
The whales swam ahead, behind, and under the boat. We then put the sails up and followed them at a more discreet distance as they swam past Clinton, spy hopping, breaching, tail-slapping. Great day to be alive.

Happy to be alive.
