Raw sewage pumping into the sound

Post by Norris » Thu Feb 09, 2017 12:15 pm

"She said the raw untreated wastewater is gushing into the Sound through an outfall a quarter-mile from shore at a depth of 240 feet at a rate of up to 440 million gallons during each 24-hour period."

For the geographically challenged, is Redondo safe to dive this weekend?

Ohh! It is time for the brown trout to make their return to the once pristine waters of the Puget Sound, jewel of Cascadia...

I haven't checked in the past few hours but as of this morning the poo warning is all the way down to Alki beach park. Obviously several miles north of Redondo but as we all know, 'it's all connected'...

Based on what I have been able to find, they cleared Seacrest (Coves 1 - 3) and Alki Beach yesterday afternoon. For the bypass, King County was apparently only sampling at West Point and to the North (Golden Gardens & Carkeek). Carkeek was above criteria in the most recent report KC posted. From this I would surmise that KC is assuming the discharge will flow north. I would avoid Edmonds & Mulkiteo this weekend.

We should also remember that there are commonly some CSO's during periods of high runoff that can also put high levels of fecal coliform in the Sound.
Confidence is the feeling you have before you understand the situation.

We dove at Edmonds yesterday (Sunday) and had no problem. Many people were diving the afternoon slack.

This updated report from Saturday shows the numbers down, even close to the plant: http://www.kingcounty.gov/~/media/depts ... ashx?la=en
