My karting name is Racer C, taken from Speed Racer, but with a "C" from my last name and not the "X". So for diving it made sense to switch it to Diver C.

I cried way too much. So I was thinking, only if my tears could turn into crystal, I would be set for life :partyman:

Hey, just popping in to say thanks to everybody who's participated so far. I've really enjoyed the responses. I like everybody's story, but I think Fishstiq has the best story so far. There are more of you out there, so keep 'em coming. :smt038

Well back in the day when a Wildcat BBS was the place to find everything - when DARPA was just barely out of the myth status - I started running multiple BBSs with blazingly fast 300 baud modems - (of which I still have some that still work) - and when DOS limited file names to 8 characters - BNBOLY - was devised - Berni (my wife) aNd Bill (me) in OLYmpia - 6 characters which left me 2 spaces to designate which BBS I was using at the time. I've been using this name for well over 20 years now.

Wow. Now THAT is impressive. Kind of like my friends 10 mb harddrive that is the size of a microwave oven and cost $3,000!

When I upgraded from my original 40 meg hard drive, which had to be custom-built onto its own SCSI plug-in board because my first computer couldn't handle a regular IDE drive, to a standard IDE 170 meg drive, I had so much room we thought we would never fill it, even running Windows 3.1...........

Now my oldest daughter can fill an 80 gig in less time than it takes to type this...

This is called "progress"...

I am youngish, but I do remember windows 3.1. As well as replacing the 5 1/4 floppys with 3.5 inch dics. The days of pay-per minute AOL online, and using the free month dics repeatedly. Not knowing what a cd burner was at first. Unfortunately purchasing the zip drive at costco, never to use it again. It's funny, my mp3 player has more harddrive space than my laptop.

Well...onto name calling...
I am Korean, but for some reason have always kept a tan pretty well, and spent a lot of time in the sun (Chelan) as a kid. Also, my hair has tended to be long and shaggy, so my mom and sister would call me mowgli when I was little. Friends caught on to it in high school, but modified it to mancub. Plus my name is Jacob, so some call me "cub", sort of a mix. The name works well because it is never taken. Oh, did I mention I am a skinny Asian guy?

Ha! The computer that I'm on right now has only a 40 gig and it is maxed out. I had to get an external hard drive just to clean it up some so I can still use it. My oldest daughter(24) just bought her fist computer :smt024 and it has a One Terabite Hard Drive! :smt119

I'm still running a fully expanded 286 with 256MB of memory! All it has is an old 160meg HD and a 5.25" floppy drive! It will only run Windows 286 and won't get on the internet :pale: but it still plays some of the old time games........

Nice Thread. I really like this one. It brings every body together.

Well mine isn't so tough. Narcosis Junky. Hum? Well I actually enjoy being narcked up. it's Onatural. It's better then those guys who get drunk and go dive, or the ones that get stoned and go dive. #-o :violent1: Diving is about fun, kind a like going to the bar and having one or two beers with a friend. With diving you can control it. when you have anough you just go up. And you don't have to worry about a DUI! oh that's my dry suit! I must be Narked. Actually, I wanted to make a cool T-shirt, with a cool logo. My best friend owns a T-shirt printing company and told me that for my Birthday he would print me up some shirts for free. So I told him sort of what I was looking for and well he didn't have a clue to what I wanted. He said I had to designe it and he would print it. so I spent 3 weeks playing with my Adobe CS3 program and came up with a T-shirt designe. :supz: If anybody ever wants one let me know I can order some more from him. and he can drop ship them for about $23 shipping included. Maybe a dollar more for 2x or 3x. Long sleeve would be $3 more. Oh and they only come in white. Any way that's how I gave my self the Name Narcosis Junky. I actually like to dive deep but I don't experience narcosis very often. At least not as much as some of my dive buddys.

Contrary to popular belief, the name Squishy Duck has nothing to do with the porn industry.

The Squishy part comes from the Steve Martin movie "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid". In that movie there is a line that goes something like "I wish I could tell her how she makes me feel all warm and squishy inside." My brother and I had a running gag with each other where at odd times one would ask the other "How does that make you feel? Does it make you feel all warm and squishy inside?" I latched onto the word "squishy" and in 1999, when everything was the something of the new millennium, I decided to make "squishy" my word of the new millennium. I used it for everything.

The "Duck" aspect comes from a girl I had a crush on in high school. I thought I was totally in love with her, but she just wanted to stay friends. She nicknamed me Duckie because she said I reminded her of the character in the movie "Pretty in Pink". It took my 15 years to realize I should be offended by that.

I started using it before I realized I should be offended by it. By the time I realized it, I decided to heck with it, it wasn't worth trying to come up with something new. I'm kinda lazy like that.

Oh, and yes, she was SOME girl.

I Live in Brownsmead Oregon and every year in September we have the famous (here) Brownsmead corn feed. After the corn feed many people get lost, as every road seems to end at the river. Hence Lostnbrownsmead
