I have a new web site ...
Our own Spatman generously offered to create a web site for me (in exchange for some scuba classes) ... and it's finally ready. I've still got some photo folders to populate in the gallery, but that'll be an ongoing process anyway.
Go take a look ... http://www.nwgratefuldiver.com ... and let me know what you think ...

That's a great site. Excellent content and the design is superb. Well organized, very clean, easy to navigate. I like it.
And the fact that it works well with Safari is a huge plus.

As a web site snob, I have to say that I likey!
Great work Spatman (and nice choice with WP), and good job providing him all that content to work with, Bob. It's usually the toughest part for a web designer, designing a site with enough content ready to populate the pics. I enjoyed clicking through your photo galleries too.
A couple questions:
- Are you sure that you want to offer hi res versions of your photography? Thieves will surely go after that.
- Is Northwest Dive Club a discussion forum and not a dive club? (I guess it's both)
Congratulations on the new site, Bob, it's something that will consume many hours yet will give you so much happiness as well. The best site is a frequently updated one, and I definitely know how hard it is to do that - since my own site rarely gets any love lately.

i use a mac, too, so i test across many browsers!SquishyDuck wrote:And the fact that it works well with Safari is a huge plus.
thanks, calvin. bob defintely had a wealth of content, so it was pretty easy to build the site around that.Calvin wrote:As a web site snob, I have to say that I likey!

and bob, calvin is right. the high res versions will get stolen and repurposed without your consent. i changed the settings in the admin to prevent that.
Re: I have a new web site ...
Good call on the high res question Calvin. Especially following John's issue with stolen photography, it's one to consider.

Re: I have a new web site ...
The bizarre thing about that is that the stolen pics WERE low-res! The guy that stole them used them on other web sites and claimed that they were HIS photos. He didn't need high-res shots to do that.....Sounder wrote:Good call on the high res question Calvin. Especially following John's issue with stolen photography, it's one to consider.

that's the nature of the internet, unfortunately. if you put it on a website, it can be taken and reused on a different wesite. hi-res images can be reused in print media as well, so it's best to keep those files protected.John Rawlings wrote:The bizarre thing about that is that the stolen pics WERE low-res! Very nice site Bob! Although, you should have a goldfish in a bottle around your neck in your bio pic, or maybe a Sea Lemon....

It's from "What About Bob?!" The scene where Bill Murey gets off the bus with his goldfish in a bottle that is hanging from a string around his neck....the Sea Lemon would replace the goldfish, saluting the local aquatic life.Grateful Diver wrote:I was kinda wondering about that myself ...Calvin wrote:Dare I ask what this is in reference to?kwbyron wrote:Very nice site Bob!
