Any Gamers out there?

Post by Joshua Smith »

I've been re-discovering the joys of blasting stuff to smithereens with my mad wsad skillz and killer reflexes. With the weather being so crappy, I've burned through some old faves like Max Payne and Halo.

So, I got inspired and went out and treated myself to a brand new copy of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC.
Spent a couple hours installing it and updating software and such. Finally, I sat down to give it a whirl.
Big mistake.
I neglected to check system requirements- my rig used to be a blazing-fast state-of-the-art game crunching machine. Sadly, it doesn't even come close to being able to handle GTA4.
If you have a rig that can handle it, I have a copy to sell cheap. The game looks like a heck of a lot of fun to play- multi-player online options, huge freaking map- I was really looking forward to getting lost in it during the snow-bound Christmas break. Reply or PM if interested.

I got tired of constantly tweaking drivers, and pimping out my gaming rig, so I ended up selling it. I do enough tweaking, and coding at work.

I picked up an Xbox360 instead. Fallout 3 for the win. And BattleField Bad Company.

i'm a playstation fan, but it's going to be awhile before i have the time to play anymore. that and the PS3s are just way too expensive.

i am thinking about picking up a wii at some point, though. my wife wants that dance revolution game, and i want to try out the scuba one.

I just lost a good portion of my day watching those videos and screen caps... damn you Spatface.

The fake enya made me want to jab my blunt dir steak knife into my eye. It needs a soundtrack makeover.

I got a laugh out of when the diver was kicking forward and he exhaled it looked like he was farting a giant stream of bubbles.

The sound of the exhaling seems all wrong too. There's a hiss of a full exhale and _then_ a bubbles sound.

The trailing gauges and giant fins cracked me up too.

I do like the idea of winning a video game by roaming the oceans and annoying wildlife.

i always turn the music off on video games. i prefer to supply my own soundtrack when either blasting things to bits or harassing wildlife.

I do the same, although I did enjoy listening to some of the radio stations on GTA IV. They were a riot.

I also usually mute the voices coming from other players when playing shooters online. Its just hard for an old fart like me to listen to a twelve year old trying to talk smack in a squeeky pre-pubescent voice. :crybaby:

That's very true as well. It's much more fun to yell at the big screen after you've been fragged six times in a row when no one can here you scream.... ](*,)

I"m a total Halo-holic. We got it for the PC and I started playing it the last time we came to Washington and I'm so hooked I'm on my second time through Legendary right now, having beaten all the difficulties at least once. I have done Halo 2 on the PC, but my laptop's video gets a little flaky so we bought an Xbox 360, both so we could play a smooth version of Halo 2 and so we could play Halo 3. I haven't gotten to 3 yet, really looking forward to it. But I want to finish 2 on the Xbox first so I can really be used to the controls. Trouble is, I have to boot Chenari off the machine and she's very into Assassins' Creed right now...

I bought Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, but it was for the original Xbox and my 360 wouldn't play it for some reason. Oh well...

What a great thread. Some people after my own heart. So in case anyone wants to hook up. I am a huge xbox 360 fan and play about a couple times a week.

Assasins Creed - conquered
Rainbow 6 Vegas - Conquered
Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 - Still play (lots of fun)
Call of Duty 4 - Awesome game
Call of Duty World at war - WOW I could use some Co-op Help
Getting Fallout for xmas I think
Getting Left for dead also...(crossing fingers)

n0rr15 is my gamer tag and send me a message if you are doing a friend invite.

Back to the Game..

Oh God:

Crackdown - Owned it on several difficulties
Assassins Creed - Wrecked it.
Gears of War - ruler of all difficulty levels multiple times helping get my buddies through it.
BattleField Bad Company - Destroyed it. Max Rank, skill level of 11 (Lower is better), all weapons.
Rainbow Six Vegas - destroyed them all.
Vegas 2 - destroyed them all, because they didn't listen the first time.
GRAW 2 - Many times.... Many times.... I still wake up from the nightmares of war in Mexico City.
Mass Effect - Hated it.
Halo 3 - Several times. Neighbors borrowed the disc. I never heard form it or them again.
Halo 2 - come on now.... of course.....
GTA IV - Got to a point where I just got bored with it.
Orange Box - Half Life(PC), Episodes1, and 2, Portal (BAMF Game)
Fallout 3 - Playing it now whenever I get the chance.

I know that there are a bunch more, but as you can see, it's going to be a pretty long list. 0]

I need a life..... I really do....

Is that the one that has 4 player coop? COD and I have a love hate relation ship. I don't like the obvious direction scripting, but I enjoy the storyline. It's weird.

I picked up a copy of Fallout 3 for PC yesterday- it installed with no problems whatsoever, and I've just started to play it- pretty awesome, so far.

I guess I'm gonna have to break down and switch to a console if I want to keep fraggin' , eventually. You're right- I had forgotten how much fun tweaking different drivers and settings was, just to play a game. Pretty stoked this one went smooth.

Yes it has the 4 player co-op and once you have beat the solo campaign on any difficulty (I ran through the game on easy using just my knife) you unlock zombie mode, where you and three buddies can fight wave after wave of nazi zombies trying to get through the windows to your warehouse. Starts off slo but then the zombies get faster, harder to kill and eventually they are just pouring through windows. I mostly play hardcore team death match when I play tough.

Game rocks.

I bought it for my brother in the hopes it would inspire him to get his certification (last year's xmas present to him-that was one expensive gift card!), but so far it hasn't moved him. In fact, I'm pretty much the only one that's ever played it on his Wii. I bet if someone here was interested, I could get it to them.

Oh, and you can load your own soundtrack and listen to that instead of the eye-gouging fake Enya.
