Got a spare room for a night or two?

Post by nwscubamom »

As budgets are scrunched, grant money becomes scarce, and travel $$ are cut, I'm finding it would be super helpful to have a backup list of places where my husband and I can crash for the night when putting on the REEF classes or dives around the NW. If you are someone who has a spare bedroom and would be willing to let us invade for a night or two, would you speak up?

Locations that are ideal would be close to:
Olympia, WA
Newport, OR (or anywhere along the coast)
Bellingham, WA
Port Townsend, WA
Nanaimo, BC
Whidbey Island area
South Seattle/Tacoma

Thanks for your help!

Our daughter and grandaughter are now occupying our spare room, but other friends have stayed in our rec-room and pronounced it quite cozy and habitable! We live just outside of Mill Creek, if you ever need a place to flop in that vicinity!

Casa Marcoux has a couple spare bedrooms too, but it's better suited for a long weekend of diving and snow skiing/boarding than for a weekend of teaching critters - we're 25 minutes from both snow and Sound on Snoqualmie Ridge.

My 31-year-old son is moving home in a couple of weeks and taking up residence in our guest bedroom. But we have a very comfortable blow-up bed we can set up in the computer room. You are both welcome to stay with us anytime you need a spot in Lincoln City, about 35 miles from Newport. It's the least I can do for a fellow BYU grad.

Casa Nic in Lakewood is yours if it ever fits all our crazy schedules! We have an upstairs area that is cozy but there are real beds.

As you have seen my spare berth, you know it is not large, but you are always welcome!

Janna,

Plenty of room at our place. I have either a full or queen size bed.

I noticed Thailand wasn't on your list...I feel a bit left out.

But I do have a guest bedroom if you ever teach REEF classes in this part of the world...

I'm in Marysville and live alone in my house. I never even go into the guest bedroom. You're welcome to it anytime.

Everyone who's responded so far, thanks so much for your input and generosity!

I will keep all this in mind as I plan the upcoming travel season for the REEF projects.

Speaking of REEF projects... One that I think would be very timely, considering all the hoopla in Oregon about marine reserves, would be a REEF survey of Oregon's only defacto marine reserve, Whale Cove. It has been a no take area since the mid '80s, is relatively small, somewhat protected, beautiful and with good structure and kelp. Maybe Valerie's crew of AAUS certified divers from the OCA and other REEF volunteers could take this on.

You know where my place is Janna. It's close enough to Anacortes, and about 20 minutes from Bellingham.

Janna,
My Wife and I have a spare bedroom with a full size bed, here in Lakewood.
Might be a little small for two people but it's available if you need it.
