verizon wireless internet

Post by DiverDown »

Heres my dillema. I live in a geographical anomoly, limited cell service and no cable. I dont want to spend the big bucks on sat internet, which I hear is not all it is cracked up to be. So I purchased a verizon usb760 wireless modem. Get home and try it out I have zero bars. But I am connected albeit slower than dial-up.

Do they make an antenna that would amplifly the signal or shoud I just take it back?

Thanks in advance..

No, but I did talk to someone at a booth once. We checked it out and clearwire is line of site. I live in a bowl between a few small hills.

satalight is not all that expensive. You can get just the Wildblue or in a package with DTV.

http://www.wildblue.com/

The only problem is you are limited on the number of gigs a month depending on a package. It will not stream video very well but does everything eles very good. If you have nothing else it is great. Just got to watch how much porn you download that is all.

That might be the route i may have to go. Wildblue or Hughesnet I believe are the same thing. 250 for the hardware and 69 bucks a month for the premium service seems to expensive for me. I know if you choose the cheaper plans you get kicked down to dial up speeds when bandwith gets to much during peak hours.I was hopeing the verizon thing would work out..

Wow, I looked into it 2 months ago from a mailer I got. I called them and almost signed up for it except for the cost of the hardware. I wish they would have said that, it would have sealed the deal for me.

Frankly I can't stand Verizon Wireless, we use sprint at work and can get antennas for those so I'm sure you can for Verizon, ours are about $100. But you need to be sure you are in the cloud or service will suck.

I do this for a living setting up remote jobs so if you want give me a call, my info is in my profile.

They teamed up with Direct TV a while ago and their hardware costs have dropped significantly. The only walk in dealer is in Arlington. I so you can go talk to them about it. I have been looking as I am a nomad and live out of the trailer on the road a lot

When is the best time to call you? I have Nextel and have minimal at best signal here. Definatly not worth even trying to make a call, though two way works usually. I did pick up an antenna for my air card and it makes no differance as I suspected it would.

Thier are boosters and antenas you can buy that will get you connected via a cell card at extream range. i belive that is what you are talking about. But your speed will be like 150k is all we used to sell them. You will be better off with the sat system fi you are looking for something for your house.
