FS: ISC Megalodon

Post by Geek »

*sigh*
It's turning out that owning and running your own business is more work than I imagined, I haven't had time to dive much this last year and it's just not getting any better, combined with bills, wanting to buy a new house etc etc etc etc it's time I sold my Meg, I've been going back and forth on this but it just comes down to time, and I don't see myself getting anymore of it through the next year soooo.....

ISC 2.7 Apeks Megalodon, Head bought new in 2010 serviced when I bought it at the factory, I believed the words "has this ever been dove?!?" came up a few times.
Standerd can
Axial Scrubber
2 19cf Steel tanks
Shadow mounts
All Hoses and shut off valve
counter lungs and DSV (Still look new, Velcro tabs are still on)
Crotch strap
Spares kit and Head cal kit
Full, UN-opened Keg of sorb

Asking $5500, PM me your number and I can send you pic's, there are many here who have seen it and know it's history that can vouch for it's condition, I am the 2nd owner.

If you want a ready to dive unit, you get the above plus:
Regs
ISC heavy Bp
Uncut harness+Halcyon weight pockets
Wing (I used a DiveRite rec wing, worked perfect IMO)
3 Bailout bottles w/rigging (2 40's and an 80)
Apeks reg for the bailout and SPG/hoses
Shearwater Predator SA (Unlocked, New still have the box)
Pelican case that everything fits in.
whatever odds and ends I have but I think I covered everything,

I'm asking $8000 for the whole shebang but I'm open to offers. Not looking to split it up right now.

It's a hard decision and one that I have been putting off for the last 6 months because I DON'T want to sell it, I love my Meg :'(

PM me if you have any questions.... if you don't know what a Meg looks like.... Ummmm, I'll help you find some pic's
If I'm killed by the questions like a cancer,
Then I'll be buried in the silence of the answer.

loser =^.^= does this maybe mean I'll be able to convince you to dive now that you are not mr.special rebreather man? I know you were just avoiding diving because you thought you were too good for my open circuit ;)

I can vouch for the unit. I know it well.
Folks, this is one hell of a bargain.

It's $5500.00 for a $10,000 CCR- 8K buys you all the sweet extras.

I wouldnt sell my GEM, its great for diving with the poor unwashed masses on OC, and watch them have to call the dive on low air. But I still lust for a full rebreather for the seriously cool deep stuff.

Still debating, I want one pretty damned bad

This probably should go into a different thread, so if its a highjack, pls forgive and move ...

One thing that I dont care for is front mounted counter lungs. I deal with it on the GEM, but its not my favorite. I've never dove the Meg yet, but have a few other back mounted rebreathers (like the Revo, which I really liked).

What are the benefits/disadvantages of front mounted CTL's (WOB, compactness?)

thx.

thx.

WOB is definitely best on Over The Shoulder (OTS) counterlungs. The other great feature is that it's almost impossible to flood a Meg- if you get water in the loop, you can force it out of the OP valve in the exhale CL. Another thing is that the ADV and manual 02 add controls are actually mounted to the CLs, so muscle memory works in your favor for adding gasses- it's kind of hard to explain, but my arms know what to do in a crunch.

And, yeah. I still don't really like the chest clutter w OTS, but you get used to it. I wasn't even very interested when ISC came out w a back mounted CL for the Meg. It is an option, though.

On that thread, BMCLs seem to be the "new, trendy thing."

Besides the guys at ISC, AP Diving just announced BMCLs for the Evolution/Inspiration, which should be shipping soon after a year of test diving. They look nice, and I might pick up a pair, although at $1k-ish, it's a pricey upgrade.

It's kind of a toss up for me. The WOB is definitely better with over the shoulder lungs than most of the units I've tried -- although Paul says the rEvo is just as good with its BMCL. The clutter is a pain, though, and requires different D-rings for clipping to the harness. I also don't like the OTS lungs in tight spaces like caves... easy to squish, while the BMCLs are more protected in space that my body can't crush.(kind of in the side with the backplate, wrapped into the curve of the travel frame. On the rEvo (or KISS units), they're in a box, so even more crush-proof...

The APD BMCL are supposed to be more flood tolerant -- each lung has a drain valve and pull cord relocated to the very bottom, so you can flush the loop or clear water from the lungs. They're the first set of any rebreather BMCLs where I have seen that feature released. That's what's putting me over the edge on them and pushing me to try them if I can. I just don't want the whole APD package (harness/lungs/MAV) because I hate APD harnesses, and I want the Titan MAV (both gasses, one gas block). We'll see if they sell the parts separately.

This is definitely a good deal on a Meg if someone wants to move up to dive with the big boys :)
There are no stupid questions, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots...
