New to PNW

Post by SailNDive »

Hey all! I'm new to the Pacific Northwest, but have been free diving and SCUBA diving for almost 20 years (quite infrequently, I should add). I've been sailing for about as long.

I'm looking to freeze in the water somewhere :nutty: , and I think I need some new equipment. Does anyone go out free diving or spear fishing around here? Where are some good spots, and what are suggested wet suit thicknesses and equipment to stay warm?

there are some spearo's around here that can tell you about that end.

AS to wetsuits, theres a big thread on that very recently you should read, but by and large, with the exception of Jeremy, everyone that dives frequently, and isn't a one dive daisy, wears a drysuit.

But if you insist on a wetsuit, the farmer john 7mm seems to be very popular. as with the overlap, keeps your core warm.

Makes sense. Truth told, the dry suit didn't really enter my mind (I moved from LA and SF in CA). I'll do some more reading around here. :) I was already looking for a wet suit to surf, but maybe I'll end up with both a wet and dry. A 7mm would be too thick to paddle in.

I don't know if WARM is the right word.

Your photo reminds me of an awesome drive my wife and I did down Punta Allen, south of Tulum, MX. Iguanas skittering everywhere while we barreled down a dusty white road just feet from turquoise waters. Can't wait to go back...

Semi Dry is like partially peeing.

You're either all in, or all out. :)
