That sounds like a great plan once the housing market bottoms out.

Although I'd rather have enough money to simply invest in 30-year bonds earning 5% and let the money work 365/24/7 and just live off that interest income...
I'm waiting for the camera housing market to bottom out, but it just keeps going up!

Clipping coupons from tax-free muni bonds is nice, but with states like CA and other municipalities across the country going broke, I'm a little freaked out by what would happen if there were a collapse. Well, we can always count on a govt. bailout - just print more moolah!

This is a cool thread, I like finding out what everyone does in their dry time.

I work in the news business and do some real estate stuff.

Of late I've spent my professional days taking expensive stuff and putting it deep in the ocean... and then taking it out again... and then repeating the process. Sometimes the stuff breaks and I fix it.

I used to be a unix nerd. Now I'm a sysadmin of ocean related technology. I've got a data center that covers 70% of the earth.

I took my chances in the stock market a few years back and am still reeling.... bought Sirius Radio stock around $6.00 or so... its worth about .10 now, but I'm still holding onto it. Waiting for the BIG comeback. haha.

I like the rentals because:

1. People will ALWAYS need a place to live and
2. I have DIRECT control over my investment, although currently, I am 3,000 miles away from them, so "direct" is not entirely true.

I work for a little aerospace company in Everett that has had a very hard time getting it's latest and greatest airplane off the ground. But hay, those planes make for pretty good yard art over there by the paint hangers.

My schedule:
Work
Work
Work
Work
Dive
Dive
Dive
somewhere in the middle of that I spend time with my wife.

The best solution to that is to do what I do: dive with your wife!!!!!!

Contrary to popular belief I am NOT retired (although I sometimes wish I was). I'm a manual laborer at a municipal poop factory ...

I work for a local water department. Mainly I'm the utility locator, but I also repair water main breaks, service lines, hydrants, large and small meters, install new water main and hydrants, blah, blah. Basically I help insure that a house gets good clean water and that the fire dept has water to fight fires. On call 24/7/365. Water main breaks in the tweens are cold. Makes the sound feel warm. On the side I'm fluent in spanish so if anyone wants to take me as an interpreter from mexico south let me know.
