Redondo Shallows

Post by cardiver »

I was planning on meeting Keith, Bob and Julie at Redondo at 1800 tonight after work and getting my tanks filled while I was at work during the day. When I realized that both shops were closed I almost decided to just go home and watch the game.
I'm glad that I changed my mind!
I drove out to Redondo hoping that someone had an extra tank and Bill came through! All he had was a hp 80 and I was a little reluctant to dive it since I've had big tanks for 15 years now. We were only diving in the eel grass so I figured that the 80 would be plenty for that profile.
The dive was incredible! Complete sensory overload with copious amounts of life everywhere I pointed my camera. I only found one lumpy but there were plenty of other critters to keep me busy.
This one one of the most relaxing dives that I've ever done and I can't wait to do it again. Special thanks to Bill for hooking me up with the 80 and letting me realize how liberating an 80 feels on my back after diving 130's for so long.
We ended up doing a 68 minute dive and were all gtinning ear-to-ear when it was over.

Absolutely BLUE.

I wish I had a better shot. I cant ID it using Andy Lambs book.

And since that is the only book I have. And the fact that it's not in it. I guess it's never been seen before so I claim the little blue shrimp in the name of Spain.

If anyone can help. And perhaps suggest the next ID book I need. I would appreciate it. :thankyouyellow:

Yeah, I saw one other Blue Shrimp too! How strange is that!
What a great dive with a max depth of 30 feet and an average of about 15!
We saw so much in that area it was as cardiver said, sensory overload! :supz: :supz:

It was a good time to partially flood my Big Bertha, light canister too! On the earlier dive to 80 feet, would have been much worse. Took it all apart, rinsed with mega fresh water, recharged the batteries and all was good! =D>
I might have lost one battery. :dontknow:
No big deal, I have extra's! :supz:

Thanks for the great dives! :highfive: :highfive: :highfive: :highfive: :highfive:

I have Pacific Coast Crabs and Shrimps by Gregory C. Jensen <petrolisthes@gmail.com>. I forget if he is on this board but I bought a copy directly from him for less than $20.

I had a quick look and think that perhaps you might have seen a Northern hooded shrimp Beataeus harrimani.
