Speaking of Cephalopods

Post by dphershman »

Here's some photos of a stubby squid I found at Cove 2 the other night. He couldn't decide if he wanted to flee or just plain hide. So he did both.

Nice photos! I love those little guys -- haven't seen one in a while.

Thanks! Cute they certainly are. I frequently see them on night dives in January-February. They prefer mucky areas, which there is not shortage of at Cove 2.

Here's one next to a shrimp--- you can see just how small this guy is.

Wow, that one next to the spot prawn is a fantastic shot. That really was a tiny one.

thanks everyone for the comments!

I've been lucky the last couple of dives I think-- I found two market squid feeding on shrimp (plus the lumpsucker) at Redondo and this fellow just last week at Cove 2. Most of the time the stubbies just try to hunker down into a ball, but this one tried to swim off. so it gave me some interesting shots that I don't normally get. (I know there are some folks that will prod and/or move their 'model' a bit but I always try to shoot them as they are)

I had my housing recently serviced by Ikelight, so it was gone from the end of November until mid January. Glad to have a camera again (I just feel naked without that big thing!)
