Rockfish Video footage needed

Post by nwscubamom »

Hey all, I have a friend who's working on a project to do a Rockfish painting. He's a really great artist, but since he's not a diver, wants to see some video of Rockfish hanging around. I let him have a go at all my rockfish photos, but he feels like seeing video would help him get a better overall sense of where they hang out, what effect the lighting and the vis has on subjects in the background, etc.

If you have any video or links to video you can post here, that would be great. I'll have him look here for the info. I'd love to see your video too.

I take photos because I like it, not because I'm good at it. :) by Unknown

This has some great footage of Blue RF on the Judith Pinnacle section (it's a 10 minute video) from our Channel Island's trip last year.

Holy cow!! This is gorgeous stuff!! (Laura, loved your soundtrack immensely)

I have such talented friends - thanks so much for being so quick to respond. I will point Dennis this direction so he can see what it's like. I was trying to explain Bull Kelp to him in regards to Black Rockfish habitat...and how the viz makes the ones in the background turn into just shadowy outlines - these illustrate that perfectly!

Anyone have footage of other than Coppers or Blacks? Got any Vermilion, or Tiger or ?

- Janna

(PS: Doug - where's the link to your video? I don't see it...)

How about Juvenile Yellowtail?
I apologize in advance for the poor video quality. I really need to quit buying motorcycle gear and get myself a descent camera.

I should show this video to my regular buddy to convince him that Edmonds Underwater Park is worth the long surface swim...(We don't have scooters)

That would be the seaward side of the Point Hudson Dolphin on a very good vis day.

I knew that!!!! It looked familiar. Only I saw Black Rockfish, not Yellowtails. And a massive school, just like you did.

Lots of schooling rockfish starting at 4:15 although the water was pretty murky.

Thanks for that! Nice Blacks and a Copper or two. You sure had cruddy viz that day, but it looks like an interesting dive.
