John OC divers die from that same thing quite often we had one recently from that just here in the sound if I remember correctly.

I'll take it!

Ok... would you say that to become a skilled CCR diver you require more training and more hours on your machine than an OC diver?

-Eric

Eric you can take Open-water CCR class.

The newer CCR's are extremely easy to operate in the water as compared to the ones from 20+ years ago. And they are for the most part very bullet proof but that all depends on what unit you get. It takes me literally 5 min to set and be ready to dive and 5 min to break it down and rinse it out after a dive. I can do 4 - 250' dives off a single fill or dive for several days at shallow depths before I have to refill things. My unit has 1000's of hours on it and I maybe fully wash mine once a month or I hit the lake to rinse it off. I do however keep the lungs and loop rinsed and clean. I do maintain my 1st stages and check them all the time same as with OC gear. The rest of it is covered in the 5 min setup and checks, extremely simple

Skill has not really got anything to do with it. It is all about comfort in the water. If you are comfortable in the water you do not have to have impeccable in water tech skills unless you are doing that kind of diving. You are going to be more attentive and aware of what if going on around you. I find diving CCR much more comfortable than OC as does just about everyone I know or we would not do it. Time slows down you notice more things it is very nice and has nothing to do with skills. Some of my friends who dive CCR but only shallow for criders look like hell in the water but they are comfortable and very safe. They don't give a rat's ass what others think they enjoy themselves that is all that matters and have been for years.

Greg- you've had that Revo for, what, 2 1/2 years, now? THOUSANDS of hours on it? I thought you said you did like 650 hours on it last year?

(internet) diving in the PNW is like watching a National Geographic Soap Opera Reality TV Porno. It's a complete charlie foxtrot that amuses, entertains, enlightens (occasionally), and brings tears to my eyes, and no matter how hard I try to turn it off, I just can't turn away and stop reading.

first year i turned 1250 hrs in November over 650 of that Mel and I had for time with classes together. 2nd year I had even more bottom time. the last few months is the only time my unit has been dry. Mel is teaching away and I have been busy on a few projects so this year my bottom time sucks so fare. That will change if we get the Sat diving contract to inspect the pipelines in CA. When you do not have to punch a clock and can do several hours a day of bottom time it adds up. Then through in some 4-6 hr long dives and it does not take long to get there.

dude, around here that's a promotion. with a salary that consists of a bowl of gruel per day and primary responsibilities that include shoveling the stables and disinfecting the NWDC bathrooms, there aren't too many jobs to demote me to. well, that aren't currently being done by josh, that is.

Quick math. 2.5 years is 900 days or 21600 hours. "Thousands" implies multiple, so at least 2000 hours. Averaged out, that's 2.3 hours (138 minutes) per day, every day, for 2.5 years.

Some comparisons; a 1/2 hour shower every day would be 450 hours. 2 hours a day spent cooking and/or eating would be 1800 hours. A 45 minute commute to and from work, 5 days a week (no holidays or vacation or sick time) would be 964.5 hours, 8 hours a day at said job would total 5144 hours.

No point, I'm just bored at work.

The Fish is above the law. Besides, I have never seen anyone better at managing a severe hangover at work in a large semi while driving with his knee, peeing in a bottle, eating a half rack of ribs and texting complicated mathematical problems to post on the NWDC.

He does, but peeing into a bottle brings back fond memories of family road-trips. I've even seen his ass hanging out the window while doing 70mph on a highway (granted, Lundy was driving). A sight I'll never forget and laugh about to this day.
