San Juans boat charter - Sunday, August 1

Post by Grateful Diver »

I've reserved Deep Sea Charter for Sunday, August 1. The planned dives are Peapod Rocks and Lummi Island ... two awesome dive sites.

Drop me a PM if you'd like to go. Cost is $80 per diver.

It'd be neat to make it a "club dive" ...

It sounds really tempting...Once again the major hurdle is the cost...I will have a financial meeting with Sam and let you know as soon as possible.

Sounds great, how early would one have to get up on a Sunday morning to go on this? Does it require taking a ferry to the San Juans or does it depart from Anacortes (or something similar)?

Departs from Anacortes (Cap Sante Marina).

It typically takes me between 1.5 and 2 hours from Federal Way.

I hope I'm not just being dense and missing it above, but, what time does it depart Anacortes?

Actually, I'm the one being dense ... I never asked Capt. Mark when we were leaving. I just put in a query. Looking at the tide chart I'd guess it'd be a morning departure, so plan on somewhere in the 8 to 9 AM time frame ... but I'll post for sure when he gets back to me.

I had my very first boat dive experience with Deep Sea Charters. They ruined me forever.... in a good way! They take really good care of thier custermers.

Boarding time is 8:30 AM ... the boat will leave the dock around 9 AM in order to catch the mellowest currents for the dives.

Talked to the 'bread maker' and...the budget for the boat dive did not pass. I don't blame him lately due to my carelessness I lost a chunk of money... :banghead:

Have fun guys!

Glad you had a good time. Between the weather, current, and vis it wasn't exactly what I had hoped for, but it was a good dose of PNW diving.

Very unfortunate about the lost cameras ...

Yeah....a lost camera would be bad enough....but "lost cameras"???? That's plural and a lot larger disaster for someone.

Yup ... one person lost their camera and strobe on the first dive ... thought he had it clipped off until he reached for it and it wasn't there. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a drift dive, and although he looked for it, didn't find it.

Second dive, someone else dropped a very expensive SLR, housing, focus light and dual strobes (about $6K setup) right after entering the water ... in a pretty stiff current on a fairly steep wall. No chance to find it.

I feel so badly for both of them.

I sympathize with those divers because recently I have lost stuff worth some money not in the 1,000s though. It is extremely frustrating. However let's put things in prospective. Luckily they did not get hurt.

Oh, man, that wasn't Lundy's camera setup, was it? Ouch! Hope whoever it was was fully insured, but even insurance doesn't make the hurt whole. Unless, of course, someone was looking to upgrade anyway . . . :)

Wasn't Lundy, but it was a setup almost exactly like his (same camera and strobes) ... and he said the equipment was insured. He was more bummed about the fact that he'd found what he described as the biggest cockerell's dorid he'd ever seen on the first dive, and thought he had some great shots ... those weren't insured ...
