Sparky

Post by Diver Doug »

I don't know if any of you know, or friend and fellow club member SPARKY, last week had some serious medical issues. Much of his memory is absent, but struggling. Read about it here on facebook http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=616952573. I know many of you have dove with Sparky, he needs our support and prayers.

James had a pretty spectacular (not in a good way) medical event and is having a very hard time piecing memories together. His girlfriend Rose is helping him assemble his past and memories to help connect the dots. She's doing some on Facebook and I've directed her to this site.

It would help if people would post their names (how James/Sparky would know you) and a few strong memories Rose can share with him to help connect the dots.

Being a rather funny guy, Sparky has lots of funny memories. Bob's story of how he met him is among my favorites.

So, if you'd be so kind, please post your memories and how Sparky will best remember you here and I will direct Rose to this thread.

Damn ... I'll contact his friend Jay (lostinbrownsmead) to see if there's anything I can do.

I don't do Facebook ... already spend more time on the computer than I should ...

I remember diving with Sparky at Hood Canal, Sund Rock. He wore a Hawaiian shirt and no hood with his wet suit.

I'm really sorry to hear this. Sparky is a great guy. His enthusiasm for diving is second to none- he used to think nothing of driving 10 hours through the night up to Seattle to sleep for 20 minutes in his car so he could meet someone for a shore dive. I only met him a couple of times at club dives down at Hood Canal, but he's a real character. I remember meeting some random folks from California diving cove 2 one time, and when I mentioned this site, they told me they'd met some guy named Sparky at a rest stop on the interstate who told them to check this site out- he'd seen the dive sticker on their van, and came up to talk to them. That made me laugh. I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

I remember well my first dive with Sparky ... it was right after he got certified. He contacted me through the old NWdiver.com board and we agreed to meet at Edmonds UP on a Saturday morning at 8 AM. Cheng and I got there about 7:30 and there was only one car in the parking lot ... with Oregon plates and some dude asleep in the driver's seat. I went over and rapped on the window. He opened his eyes and busted out with this huge grin.

You Sparky?
Yeah, you Bob?
Yup. What time did you get here?
About 2:30.
A little early, weren't you?
Yeah, that's what the cop said.
Cop?
Yeah, he asked me what I was doing here. I told him I'm meeting a guy to go diving in the morning and didn't want to miss it.

Dude was always so enthusiastic. I "introduced" him to his first cabezon. He claimed I set him up (well, maybe I did) ... but he took it well and came out of the water even more excited than usual.

Sparky ... dude ... get better. You gotta lot of friends here, and we miss ya.

I joined in nov. 2006 and drove up to the winter sund rock club dive in dec.2006. Sparky was the one I talked to the most for the trip and my main contact for that first get together, along with "assman" and tom nick.

I also sold Sparky his first drysuit. We met halfway in Brooks OR truckstop, had lunch and went to the truck/farm museum across the street.

Sparky is a good friend and I hope he gets well soon.

We greatly appericate all of this. Your friend Rose and Sparky

Sparky, I tried to look for some pictures for the dives we did together but I only found one. But it is the best one. This was on one of the Hood Canal club dives and Bassman, Tom Nik (?) you and I took the Scuba Kat to Rosie's Ravine. We get there and it turns out I had a blonde moment and forgot my Dry Suit at the truck. They dove and then we went back to the ramp dropped them off and went back. What did we see at 120' but our first 6 gill. Both of us must of been narked because we did a victory dance then and there. Well I found that really bad picture and if you look real close you can see it. Hope this helps and get better guy.

PS: your spelling still stinks. How many times do I have to send you this link for spell check. :smt064

so its been two weeks and i don't think ill be going to work soon
Rose had me stop my meds for one day cause we think i am having problems with them Seizures got less and memory started coming back and I feel more like me I still get confused and some things are hard for me to do
I am tired and sleep a lot and hurt like hell all the time
i am still having seizures but Rose tells me that not for as long or bad as before

back on the meds today to see if they were making me have more seems I have had a few side effects to them

getting worried about the bills and shit around here Rose got me a Attorney to help with my disability claim but that might take a long time So I am going to have to give the bike back and sell my dive gear and maybe even my tools( at my work)
on the lighter side of things I am getting my memories back some a little at a time others seem to flood my head and i cant sort it all out but Rose is helping me and we are working it out together

I have trouble controlling my emotions I get real real pissed for no reason then i cry for nothing more then i forgot to turn the coffee maker on this is so freaking hard but thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers we love you all Sparky and Rose

Renae, Alisha and I just got home from visiting with Sparky and I noticed he sure is not his normal out going self. He is having difficulty remembering many day to day things. He does remember many of our diving adventures like the time he got bit on a finger by a cabezon at Alki and the great crab attack (little crab no more than 2 inches) Who was saying Hey!!! Hey!!! in five feet of water. But he has difficulty with what happened two days ago. I hope they find out real soon what is wrong, so he can get better and we can have more dive adventures, like at Salt Creek county park, where we had a great dive until, it was time to finish the dive and get out of the water, he was gently lifted onto the rock ledge by a wave, then when it was my turn to get out, I got FLUSHED!!!

Get well soon. Our prayers are with you Sparky

Jay

Please continue your stories it may help Sparky remember more.

I want to thank Jay and his wife and daughter for coming to see Sparky. That is greatly appericated and I know he was happy to see all of you as well. Days get hard when he thinks someone is coming over. So I try to tell friends to treat him really gentle dont say your coming if you don't have the time, or just tell me and i will be able to explain it easier for him. Its a major struggle when he has friends tell him they are coming and dont show because he waits and waits for them to show and then its a big let down when they do not. So if ya call him please don't say your coming. If yall want to call his number is posted feel free to call him and say who u are and the memories you share and maybe he will know who u are. Thank you again Jay and family......................

Keep praying we get answers and help through this time of need....

The new update of how the doctor's visit went and what was said. Do not mind the foul words I am highly tick off. So we got up at 6 am left house @ 7:55 am drove 91 miles to just get told he didn't have all the results to test that were done at this fricken hospital. So what they do sent us home. But the up side of things is he wants to put James in hospital for observation and further testing. He is unaware what is going on with James so there fore nothing he can do for him at this time. So please continue the prayers. Now we will be struggling to figure out how to get by till we get financial help. So far nothing on that. All we do is play phone tag with them guys and I am trying really hard to keep him unstressed and it isnt easy so anything anyone is willing to help with will be greatly apperciated at this time.
